Attitude (Japanese: せいかく Seikaku) is a trait that affects how Yo-kai spend their turns and which stats are raised when they level-up.
Not all Yo-kai can have every attitude because of their Attribute or Rank. The terminology used varies between the games.
Attitudes[]
Attitudes determine which stats will be raised with each level-up and which action a Yo-kai will be likely to execute when they have the chance to act.

Yo-kai Watch 4[]
In Yo-kai Watch 4, the attitudes change slightly. In addition, books are no longer needed to change a Yo-kai's attitude. A Yo-kai's attitude can be chosen when the player summons a Yo-kai via Konkatsu, and they can be changed via the Alien's UFO. If an attitude is shown in gold then that is the best attitude for that Yo-kai by default.
Attitude | Colour | Effect |
---|---|---|
Short-Tempered | Red | Likes using Y attacks |
Violent | Fuschia | Likes using X attacks |
Calm | Light blue/teal | Likes using spiritual techniques |
Disgusting | Violet | Likes using negative inspirits |
Devoted | Pink | Likes using positive inspirits |
Reliable | Orange | Guards more often |
Show-Off | Yellow | Guards and attacks more often |
Kind | Green | Uses healing moves more often |
Loafing[]
Another type of attitude determines the likelihood for your Yo-kai to loaf around. In-Game, they are shown before the attitudes above. The way these attitudes are named varies between the games:
Yo-kai Watch[]
Attitude | Loafing Tendency |
---|---|
Serious | Very Rarely |
Stiff | Rarely |
Carefree | Often |
Loafer | Very Often |
Yo-kai Watch 2 and 3[]
# | Attitude | Loafing Tendency |
---|---|---|
0 | Serious | Very Rarely |
1 | Stiff | Rarely |
2 | Casual | Occasionally |
3 | Carefree | Often |
4 | Sloppy | More Often |
5 | Clumsy | Very Often |
Not all Yo-kai can have every attitude.
- E- and D-Rank Yo-kai can have attitudes between Carefree and Serious
- C- and B-Rank Yo-kai can have attitudes between Sloppy and Stiff
- A-and S-Rank Yo-kai can have attitudes between Clumsy and Casual.
In the game data, these are codified as numbers from 0 to 5, with 0 standing for a Serious attitude and 5 standing for a Clumsy attitude.

In Yo-kai Watch 1-3, there are books that can change the attitude of your Yo-kai. They are sold in the book store at Flower Road at Shopper's Row.

In Yo-kai Watch 4, Yoghurt (Japanese: 妖グルト Yo-kai Guruto) is used to change a Yo-kai's attitude from the Alien Tribe Member who can be found at the centre of the Springdale Elementary School playground. Yoghurt is randomly dropped, rewarded and can be bought in Dismarelda's Shop in the Yo-kai Sumo Ring and Dimmy's Shop in the Busters Hell-Hole.
Trivia[]
- Some Yo-kai have skills that will never make them slack or everyone to not slack, making their Loaf-Attitudes somewhat useless.
- For example, Timidevil and Beelzebold are the only Yo-kai that can never be Very serious, Serious or Docile due to their skills "Too Afraid" and "Intimidation".
- There is a glitch in the game that allows you to befriend a Shadow Venoct with a Logical or Brainy attitude even though it is a Restoration-attribute Yo-kai. It is highly recommended to keep this attitude since it will either give him a huge boost in Spirit or both Spirit and Speed.
- Likewise there is a similar glitch with Frostail allowing it to be Cruel or Twisted which is great to help increase Speed or Speed and Strength.
