Etymology[]
Origin[]
Bishamonten is based on the god of the same name, belonging to the shichifukujin. (see Benzaiten#Origin).
He was originally known as Vaisravana, leader of the Four Heavenly Kings in Buddhism and in turn derived from Kubera in Hinduism. In Japanese culture, he is a god of warfare and national defense, patron of warriors and soldiers, who is also in charge of protecting shrines and places of worship across the country and punishing evildoers. He is typically portrayed in full armor, with a spear in one hand and a pagoda in the other, surrounded by a fiery halo.
Trivia[]
- Bishamonten's Soultimate was named "Hundred Lance Shot" in Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, but it was renamed to "A Century of Lances" in the third game.
