Life Is Short, so Stand Up for Your Friends! is the 13th chapter in the Yo-kai Watch manga series.
Plot[]
Nate, Bear and Eddie are excited about hunting bugs at the end of Summer so begin to search around Mount Wildwood shrine. Whisper shouts, telling Nate to get down as he'll scare away the bugs. Nate ignores him and tries to catch some cicadas nearby but fails. Whisper chastises him but quickly retracts his statement and offers to catch a cicada for him. Nate notices Bear and Eddie have already caught bugs of their own and is worried he's falling behind in their contest. Whisper returns, calling to Nate that he has a big bug. It is revealed he caught a tuna fish which Nate muses that it's big but not the right species. Nate begins to fret more however hears that Bear and Eddie's bugs have disappeared and their cages and nets have broken. Nate is pleased he isn't behind anymore but quickly realises it's rude to be happy about their misfortune. Whisper states that there must be a Yo-kai behind the incident so Nate decides to search for one.
Nate quickly finds Cadin pretending to be a regular cicada. Cadin tells Nate how he's mad that humans sneak up on insects to catch them - even though he's okay with humans catching insects. He then falls down, thinking that he doesn't have much time left to live and must drive away the humans. Nate mentions this too and Cadin tries to play dumb but is already lying on the ground. Cadin shakily stands and strikes his sword at Nate. Nate runs and decides to summon Jibanyan who appears lounging on a deck chair. Jibanyan is mad Nate took him away from enjoying the sun but still helps Nate. However, Cadin is on the ground again and Nate asks if he's alright. Cadin is frustrated that Jibanyan is siding with Nate and slashes at him however Jibanyan dodges. Though it is revealed that the fur on the top of Jibanyan's head was sliced off. Cadin states that Jibanyan is fast and stops his assault, instead making a loud buzzing noise. While Jibanyan is distracted, Cadin strikes at him with his sword however Jibanyan catches his sword in his mouth and breaks it in two. Jibanyan breaks his teeth on the sword but Cadin reveals a second sword, proving his first attempt fruitless.
Jibanyan then tries his Soultimate but Cadin makes the loud buzzing noise again and launches towards him. Jibanyan then manages to use his Soultimate with his feet and knocks Cadin down. Cadin states that he hasn't lost but can't even stand as a last ditch effort, he simply begs for Nate not to hurt the other insects. Bear and Eddie return, showing Nate a bug they caught but Nate decides to let the bug go instead. Cadin thanks Nate and says he'll take the place of the insect he just freed. Nate tells him he should just go off and live his life instead, making Cadin overjoyed. He then gives Nate his medal and Nate is happy they're friends now however Cadin collapses and Nate cries out.
Nate buries Cadin, giving him a grave and mourns his loss. Nate then realises he still has his medal so tries to summon him. The summoning light appears from the ground and Cadin emerges from the dirt, however now as a zombie. Nate is overjoyed anyway and hugs Cadin however Cadin's head falls off.
This chapter features a bonus manga.
Nate is worried that Cadin lost his head but Cadin reassures him, saying he just needs to be put back together. Cadin's head commands his body over to him however it accidentally steps on his head, breaking it.
