The Ancestor's Wish is the 14th chapter in the Yo-kai Watch manga series.
Plot[]
At school, Bear is telling Nate and Eddie a story about the ghost of a sword-wielding samurai at the Shoten Temple graveyard. Nate is shocked and Bear is astounded he believes him. Nate tells him that the ghost was most likely a Yo-kai. Bear laughs nervously and tells Eddie that they should go. Whisper is furious that Bear doesn't believe in Yo-kai and Nate is sad that no one ever takes him seriously when he talks about Yo-kai. They then decide to check out the graveyard at night to see if it's really a Yo-kai.
Nate is scared as they arrive but he's pleased to have a Yo-kai with him. Despite this, Whisper is extremely scared and is wearing multiple protective amulets. Just then, someone calls out and something can be seen rising from the ground. Nate is shocked to see a Yo-kai that looks just like Jibanyan, Shogunyan. Shogunyan is mad that the two of them were making a racket at night. Nate still thinks the Yo-kai is Jibanyan so is surprised he sleeps in a graveyard and tries to take off his helmet. Shogunyan is mad he's touching his samurai helmet which makes Nate confused. He then realises Shogunyan has a ghostly body and is worried that Jibanyan has turned into a ghost. Shogunyan thinks they must be grave robbers so moves to kick Nate however since he's a ghost he has no legs. Disgraced, Shogunyan tries to kill himself but realises he can't as he's already dead. Nate realises that the Yo-kai is a samurai so wonders if it was the one Bear was talking about.
Nate finally asks if Shogunyan is Jibanyan but Shogunyan is shocked he knows Jibanyan and states that he is his descendant. He begs for Nate to bring Jibanyan to him and Nate instantly accepts much to Shogunyan's surprise. Nate summons Jibanyan who appears, cheering for Next HarMEOWny. He quickly cries out, shocked to see the ghostly Shogunyan. Whisper reminds Jibanyan that he's a Yo-kai and Jibanyan is quickly reassured. Shogunyan begs for Jibanyan's help but he quickly refuses. Shogunyan begins to throw a tantrum and insults Jibanyan until he accepts. Shogunyan begs for some dried tuna and Jibanyan gives him some. Nate scolds Jibanyan for being so rude even though they interrupted his concert. Meanwhile, Shogunyan is upset that he can't even touch the tuna so he asks Jibanyan if he can possess his body. Jibanyan refuses and everyone is shocked how persistent he is.
Nate and Whisper then discover Noway behind Jibanyan. They try to find out why Noway is inspiriting Jibanyan but he refuses to tell them. Nate then states that they'll just fight him instead but Noway then begins to tell his life story. He then jumps to fall onto the group. Shogunyan tries to stop him but forgets he's a ghost. Noway asks Nate to help him up and Nate is confused that he just tried to squish him but helps anyway. As he does, he realises Jibanyan was flattened. While Jibanyan is down, Shogunyan takes the chance to possess his body and becomes corporeal. Noway runs at him, realising he can now flatten him but Shogunyan slashes him in two. Noway tries to cement himself back together but Shogunyan kicks him away. Whisper notes that Noway probably won't want to be their friend now but Nate gets an idea. He tells Noway that he won't be his friend so Noway instantly becomes his friend in retaliation, giving Nate his medal. As Noway leaves, Nate tells him to never help him when he calls which Noway responds that he will always come help him.
Shogunyan praises Nate for his skills and asks Nate to look after Jibanyan as he finally gets to eat his dried tuna. He then gives Nate his medal and returns to his grave. Jibanyan returns to normal and realises Shogunyan possessed him because his mouth smells like dried tuna. He angrily digs up Shogunyan's grave and pulls out Shogunyan however ends up pulling out his skeleton instead.
This chapter has a bonus manga which states it occurred between panel 1 and 2 on page 177.
Shogunyan's ghost is relieved after eating the dried tuna and tells Nate he will leave although Nate is sad he can't stay longer. Shogunyan decides to give Nate his sword as a keepsake but Nate is worried since it's so sharp. Shogunyan is mad and strikes at Nate however since he's a ghost the sword has no effect on Nate. Shogunyan laughs at his trick but Nate is less than pleased.

Trivia[]
- Unlike in the video games and anime, Shogunyan is not summoned like other Legendary Yo-kai, he acts more like a regular Yo-kai as he is found out and about in Springdale
- Although Shogunyan states in this chapter he can only possess Yo-kai of his bloodline - for example, Jibanyan - he is seen possessing Whisper and Katie in CP097
