An Excitable American Yo-kai!! is the 39th chapter in the Yo-kai Watch manga series.

Plot[]

The chapter continues on directly from the last. Both Nate and Whisper are laying face down on the ground. Both get up and are suddenly both dressed like ‘enthusiastic Americans’. Both of them are shocked at the other’s appearance with Nate continuously shouting out his name, stating how American it sounds. A Yo-kai suddenly appears introducing themselves as Apelican. Both Nate and Whisper join in shouting out his name but just as quickly throw off their American get-up, blaming Apelican for affecting them. Apelican insults the two by calling them ‘bird brains’ and quickly bursts into laughter at his own joke. Whisper then explains that Apelican causes people he’s inspirited to become extremely ‘Americanized’. Apelican agrees, stating his love for America and that he wants to spread the culture. He tells the two that he once possessed a Japanese man and made him super popular in the country. Nate thinks its Ryoma Sakamoto but Apelican remembers it was Ryuji Kawashima which Nate exclaims he’s never heard of.

Nate gets fed up and decides to summon Jibanyan however Apelican instantly eats him because he was hungry. Apelican soon spits him out leaving Jibanyan dazed. Nate decides to instead summon Blandon to rival Apelican’s American power. Nate tells Blandon to beat Apelican while he’s excited about seeing a ninja but Apelican quickly shoots him. Nate is worried about Blandon but it turns out he used a dummy as a replacement. He sneaks up behind Apelican for a strike but quickly realises he left his sword on the dummy. Apelican shoots him for real but Apelican explains his gun doesn’t kill people it just makes them extremely American. Whisper and Nate realise that that was what Apelican did to them in the first place.

With Blandon out of action, Nate summons Shogunyan. Apelican shoots him too but Shogunyan is already a ghost. He slices at Apelican but his sword just goes through him as he’s incorporeal. Shogunyan finds Jibanyan’s unconsious body and uses it to become solid. Apelican instantly shoots him turning him into Santa Claus which Nate exclaims isn’t even American. Apelican jumps into the air and puts real bullets into his gun however before he can shoot, Blandon follows him as his body can stretch far. Apelican shoots at him but Shogunyan manages to climb Blandon’s back, slashing at Apelican. He falls to the ground defeated, telling Shogunyan to finish him off. Shogunyan tells him its unecessary to take lives without reason and Apelican is moved by the way of the samurai. Apelican states he’ll learn about Japanese culture as well and gives Nate his medal. Shogunyan, Apelican and Blandon depart and Nate asks if Jibanyan is okay. He realises Jibanyan was shot by Apelican’s American bullets and he’s ended up with a scarily realistic face.
