Plot[]

The following day since last chapter, after Nate/Katie wakes up and gets dressed, Whisper notes how they had a big sleep, adding that they earned it after their defeat of Slimamander. However, the player is still worried about another Yo-kai as poweful as Slimamander showing up. Whisper says they should spend the day upgrading the Yo-kai Watch, which can be done at the watch shop, Timers & More, since they've been dealing with Yo-kai for decades, and actually created the Yo-kai Watch. The player agrees, and remembers it's near the Blossom Heights station.

After heading into Timers & More, the attendant, Mortimer Goodsight, greets the player, who says they have some questions about the watch. He notes that the player has a genuine Yo-kai Watch, as well as noticing Whisper. After the player expresses shock that he can see Whisper, Mr. Goodsight tells the two he is a Yo-kai himself. Whisper tells the player that there are Yo-kai who disguise as humans and join human society. Mr Goodsight asks what the player wants, to which they ask to upgrade their Yo-kai Watch. He says he needs 3 different parts to do it, a cog, a screw and a spring. He says the screw will be at the bike shop, the cog will be at the Old Mansion and the spring will be at the Wayfarer Manor.

The screw and cog are obtained rather easily, but after obtaining a key for a secret room in the Old Mansion, the player and Whisper find a Yo-kai sleeping. Whisper explains it's called Baku, and is known for eating people's nightmares. Whisper says he looks like he's having a nightmare itself, and the player wakes him up, to which Baku attacks the player, thinking they're a monster. After defeating Baku, the player and Whisper apologise. Baku says he's been having a lot of bad dreams lately, and is starving for good dreams, then says the player's face is tasty. Even though this scares the player, Baku gives them his medal, though the player refuses to let him eat their face. Baku then gives the player the Watch Cog, and the player and Whisper head back to Timers & More.

Despite getting back the watch parts, Mr. Goodsight says his work hasn't been the same ever since he lost his lucky undies, and asks the player to get them back. The player says that it's not right to ask a child to do that, but he admits that even though he called the Springdale Hot Springs, they haven't given them back, and told him to come back for them after they closed, but he can't go out at night. The player replies by saying they can't leave at night, since their parents won't allow that. He mentions that if they had Baku, the player would be okay, to which Baku summons himself. Mr. Goodsight explains that Baku can suck all drowziness out of the player, as well as change form and take their place during the night so they won't be found out. Late at night, Baku sucks the drowziness out of the player, and the player realises they're not sleepy at all. Baku then takes the player's place in bed, transforming his form into them. Whisper and the player excitedly sneak out before the player's parents can find out.

Venoct Terror Time YW1 Switch — The mysterious Yo-kai meets Katie and Whisper again.

Only getting a few steps down the street, the player and Whisper feel something weird. Suddenly, the streets of Springdale fills with grey mist, and a giant creature lands nearby and roars. As the player asks what it is, Whisper says it's an Oni, and they need to run immediately. After the two run to Springdale Elementary, the player, out of breath, encounters the mysterious Yo-kai from the previous day, who says he's been watching them, and summons a door for them to escape. The player asks why he helped them fight Slimamander, because they never got to thank him. He replies by saying that makes them allies, and to not expect another bailout next time, before leaving. The player and Whisper enter the door and escape the Oni. Whisper briefly ponders on the mysterious Yo-kai, before mentioning the Oni's sudden appearance meant they were trapped in Terror Time. He says it's a special kind of nightmare that kids have, and the Oni are a physical representation of the dreamer's fears and worries. As well, he explains those who escape will wake with a stronger heart, and those who don't will wake in their bed, missing out on the chance to grow stronger. Whisper theorises the reason they encountered it while they were awake was because Baku was sleeping in their place, before saying they need to go to the hot springs immediately.

Sproink in bath — Whisper realises what underwear Sproink is wearing.

After entering, the hot springs girl says the hot springs are closed. Once the player asks her about needing to pick something up, she says the lost and found is empty, but they can look around for it. Whisper senses an aura coming from the men's bath and urges the player to investigate, despite them asking to just grab the underwear and go. After using the Yo-kai Watch on the bath, the player finds the Yo-kai Sproink, who is relaxing in the bath. The player asks if they can just leave him alone, but Sproink grows enraged at all the noise and stands up, causing Whisper to notice he's wearing Mr. Goodsight's underwear. After the player asks for the underwear, Sproink grows furious and attacks the player, with old men and Wiglin suddenly appearing as backup dancers. After Sproink is defeated, the player and Whisper take back Mr. Goodsight's undies, and the player questions the backup dancers. The two return to Timers & More, as Mr. Goodsight upgrades the Yo-kai Watch. The player and Whisper decide not to tell him Sproink was wearing his underwear, as Mr. Goodsight gives them the Rank D Yo-kai Watch, now able to find higher ranked Yo-kai and unseal Watch Locks.
