A Chocobar (Japanese: チョコボー Choco-bō) is a Candy food item introduced in Yo-kai Watch 2. When given to a foe Yo-kai, it will show an average liking to it.
Chocobars have become one of the most prominent items in the Yo-kai Watch franchise, ever since its debut as Jibanyan's favorite snack in the Yo-kai Watch anime series.
In Yo-kai Watch 4, it is the food item needed to upgrade the stats of Jibanyan, Jibanyan (Shadowside), Robonyan, Tidynator, Lil' Acala, Junior, and Gusto at Konsaru's parlour.
Overview[]
It is a chocolate bar that is covered with orange-and-yellow wrapping, stylized like a face along with a red "tongue" which says "Chocobar" (チョコボー) on it (In the Japanese version only). In subsequent appearances, the color scheme of the wrapping was changed to yellow in Yo-kai Watch 4 and Yo-kai Watch!, while the Chocobar appears to look different and "beastlier" in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside. The inside of the bar is either a wafer filling (in the first two anime series) or a rice-like filling in the Yo-kai Watch♪ series.
Jibanyan is heavily known to be a fan of Chocobars He usually stores around nine Chocobars in his haramaki, and tends to leave some them half-eaten. He also dreams of opening a Chocobar factory in Yo-kai Watch 2 when he was asked about what he wanted to do during a train journey. Most, if not all other cat Yo-kai like Chocobars, such as Robonyan. He has the ability to make some from scratch, using his advanced machinery built inside him.

In real life[]

Chocobars have become real-life candy called Jibanyan's Chocobar (Japanese: ジバニャンのチョコボー Jibanyan no Choco-bō) that were sold in Japan, produced by Bandai Candy. They take the appearance of crispy chocolate couscous bars with chocolate pieces inside and chocolate-filled undercoating, sold in the iconic orange packaging.
The original flavor was first produced in September 2014, before they were replaced with a "New" edition that was bigger and had more pieces of chocolate in the rice filling in 2016. Other flavors of Chocobars were also produced in real life, such as the Strawberry Chocobar and the Premium Chocobar during 2016-2017.
There have also been different variants of the original Jibanyan's Chocobar snack, in a bigger size that was about the height and length of four Chocobars connected together. It was also released as a popsicle that had chocolate filling covered with melted chocolate and pieces of couscous.
The packaging was also changed every year from 2017 where it was briefly rebranded as Yo-kai Chocobar (Japanese: 妖怪チョコボー Yokai Choco-bō)

2021 - Simply rebranded as 'Chocobo' (Japanese: チョコボー)
, while in 2018 it was changed to reflect the appearance of them in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside. The Jibanyan's Chocobar branding returned once more in 2019 to look like the Chocobars from Yo-kai Watch! and Yo-kai Watch 4, coming with a rectangular sticker inside.
In 2021, to coincide with the Yo-kai Watch♪ series, the Chocobar returned to its classic orange design, rebranded as simply Chocobar (Japanese: チョコボー Choco-bō)
Trivia[]
- Chocobar is the only food that make its debut in anime series before the game.
- The design packaging of Chocobars resemble scared seals that are seen at Japanese shrines. Ironically, Jibanyan's earlier designs was planned to have seals, as well as his Inspirit in the Japanese version literally translating to "Numbing Seal."
- Chocobars may be inspired by the real-life confectionary brand KitKat, where they have a similar wafer-like filling and have a variety of flavors sold in Japan. It's also likely based on the KitKat Bar, or called the Kitkat Chunky in Europe.
- In SS011, an advertisement at the beginning shows the woman saying "Even after thirty years, Chocobars are as tasty as ever!", implying that Chocobars went into production around the events of the original series and the first three main games.
