Let's Sing Together! Yo-kai Red and White Song Battle! (Japanese: みんなで歌おう！妖怪紅白歌合戦！ Minna de Utaou! Yōkai Kōhaku Uta Gassen!) is the 91th episode of the Yo-kai Watch anime series. It was broadcasted in Japan on October 16, 2015, and one of the episodes in the United States to be entirely skipped in the dub.
Summary[]
Nate attends a Song Battle concert hosted by Komasan and Komajiro. Whisper attempts to form music groups so that he can compete.
Plot[]
Nate notices that the event is reminiscent of what they have every December in his world whereas Whisper sets up a television and couch so they can watch the musical event together. When Jibanyan and Nate sit next to Whisper, he turns the television on, which makes the eye on top of it which temporarily fade their view to a binding light.
When the televised event begins, Nate, Whisper and Jibanyan are excited for what is going to happen. Komasan and Komajiro are the hosts of the Yo-kai Red and White Song Battle, where they introduce who will be on either team. For the red team, they introduce Dismarelda where she performs her song, making Whisper exaggeratedly applaud her performance. Jibanyan goes over to Nate's closet and takes some Chocobars, where Whisper forcefully reminds him to not miss any of the show but reveals that he is going to the event hall where the show is being broadcasted, temporarily making Whisper jealous of him.
Jibanyan offers Nate and Whisper to come along where the latter happily accepts, out of his envious sulking. After Komasan and Komajiro applauds Dismarelda, Nate, Jibanyan and Whisper make it to the venue on time via Mirapo. Whisper is excited at the surroundings of the set, while one of the production crew members notice that Jibanyan is there. They guide him and Nate, where Whisper mistakenly takes it for the direction of the seating area but he is soon shocked at the fact Jibanyan is one of the performers for the song contest.
The hosts introduce one of the participants of the white team, who is Hidabat. This surprises Whisper where he didn't know that Hidabat would also be performing in the contest, and Nate when he notices that Hidabat never goes outside of his closet. They are shocked when they find that the closet he resides in Nate's bedroom was taken to the stage, where the hosts explain that as his status as a "shut-in".
When Hidabat performs his song (along with the closet he resides in moves out of the stage), Nate is still surprised at his closet managing to transport itself to the Yo-kai World. Jibanyan and Nate notice that Whisper is off to perform a song of his own, but he suddenly gets a cue card from one of the crew which say that they have to perform in groups after the commercial break. Though Whisper is disappointed, he still aims to try and form a musicial group with him as part of it.
After the commercial break, Komasan and Komajiro comes onto the stage to introduce the group performances with the first being the Anti-Soul Brothers on the red team, composed of Swelterrier, Blazion, Sproink and Swelton. Jibanyan and Nate are impressed at their performance, but notices that Whisper isn't sitting next to them. Whisper attempts to find some musical group members by holding up a sign, but no Yo-kai notices him or is interested in it.
As holding up a sign provides to be an unsuccessful attempt, Whisper notices Faysoff and asks to form a group with him but Lafalotta passes by and disapproves of his idea where Faysoff also agrees with. Whisper notices Droplette, which leads him to Dimmy, Buhu and Hidabat (who is still in Nate's closet). He sneakily takes all of the Yo-kai except for Hidabat together and tries to form a group with them, calling it "Horrorsmith" but they all reject Whisper's offer. Despite that, Hidabat likes the name which makes Whisper assume that he's going to be in it.
Whisper assumes that the group name idea was enough to earn their approval at first, but the hope is taken away when the production crew subtly moves him out of the camera frame when he takes the photo of the group. Frustrated, Whisper asks him to retake the picture but the group members and cameraman have already left and he soon notices on the television that the group had come onto the stage to deliver their performance as part of the white team much to his disappointment.
After their performance, Nate is surprised that his closet is still being used on stage but Whisper's anger builds up when he expresses his frustration of having his group formation credit taken away towards the other Yo-kai watching making them scared and run away. From another angle, Whisper notices Pride Shrimp and Wotchagot, where he offers to form a group with him again and comes up with the name of "Donburies Come True". The production crew likes the name of the group and takes a photo of them, hoping Whisper would stay in the shot this time but he is once again isolated out of the picture.
This time, Whisper strangles the cameraman, but suddenly disappears and has an outburst in a fit of anger. After Pride Shrimp and Wotchagot both perform their song as part of the red team, Komasan and Komajiro announces that a human guest, who is Nate, is going to summon a Yo-kai for the show's performance, making Whisper shocked again. Komasan gives him a Song Medal, where he explains that whatever Yo-kai are summoned perform a song. He summons a musical group for the white team called Tabemono Gakari, which shocks Pride Shrimp and Wotchagot due to it's name and the group being made up of Hungramps and Grubsnitch.
While they perform their song, they got close to Pride Shrimp and Wotchagot implying that they are going to consume them, making them more unsettled and scared and manages to do it after Komasan applauds the the musical group. They both announce the final performer, who is Jibanyan but in the midst of Whisper's realization, he tries to join in only for them to collide with each other and become Buchinyan.
Their fused personalities have trouble on deciding whether to sing or not, with Whisper's part wanting to do it and Jibanyan's part not wanting to perform in this state. The same cameraman from earlier comes to the front stage and notices the appearance of the Yo-kai and asks him to pose while once again trying to get Whisper out of the picture resulting in them both being separated and having the picture zoomed into Jibanyan, frustrating Whisper once more.
Everybody in the audience applauds Jibanyan's performance, while Komasan and Komajiro announces the results of the team. When Komajiro asks Komasan who should be the winner, Komasan looks at the teams but turns an eye to Jibanyan, declaring the red team as the winner.
After Nate was happy to be at the song contest, Whisper suddenly tries to halt the show from being over, but Komasan, Komajiro, Jibanyan and Nate all leave from his view. In a last-ditch attempt, he breaks the fourth wall by attempting to form a group with the viewer, but broadcasting signal cuts him off.

- This episode's alternative dub aired in South Africa on June 30, 2019, listed under the title "Everybody Sing! Great Yo-kai Singing Competition". This is the second full episode skipped by the American dub of which was present in the alternative dub.
- Whisper dresses up as Elvis Presley when explaining what the Yo-kai Red and White Song Battle was all about.
- This episode is heavily inspired by NHK's Kōhaku Uta Gassen, which is a singing event where groups perform songs as part of two teams. It is partially referenced by Nate where he says that the event is reminiscent of what is held in the his world "every December".
- This is the first time where Whisper and Jibanyan fuse with each other to become Buchinyan in the anime series. He previously appeared in Yo-kai Watch: The Movie.
- This is the first and only time where Yo-kai are detached from fusion without a cloud of smoke surrounding them.
- Buchinyan is the fourth Yo-kai that previously appeared in Yo-kai Watch: The Movie to appear in anime series.
- This is the seventh absence of Hailey and Usapyon ever since their introduction.
- This episode shows the first appearance of Song Medals.
- The musical event of this episode is referenced in certain parts of Yo-kai Watch 3. In the English release, it is referred to as the "Yo-kaivision Song Contest," a reference to the Eurovision Song Contest.
- In this episode, the opening theme sequence is edited onto a Yo-kai TV screen. This happens again in Yo-kai's Favorite Hit Music Station.
- This was carried over to the European dubs of the episode, however broadcasts on Boing's channels in France and Spain replace it with the regular sequence due to enacted censorship in certain areas of the opening.
- This is the very first full episode to be skipped from the English dub, likely because the Song Medals were not dubbed into English, as none of the songs can be found in the localized verisons of Yo-kai Watch Blasters: Moon Rabbit Crew or Yo-kai Watch 3.
- However, the English dub later included Yo-kai's Favorite Hit Music Station, another episode based around song medals.
Errors[]
- When Jibanyan and Whisper fuse into Buchinyan, their tails never move unlike other cat Yo-kai. This detail would later be corrected in Shogunyan Wants to Cut Hard Things.
