In the anime[]
Emily appears in a flashback in EP130 where Tomnyan explains about his backstory to Jibanyan in the middle of an argument. It was revealed that she used to be Tomnyan's owner when he was alive, where she always went to high school and wanted to become a fashion designer. It was until one day she was listening to music on her MP3 player where she was almost hit by an oncoming truck until her pet risked his life to save her. Jibanyan pointed out that the story was similar to what happened with his previous owner Amy, and both reconciled together.
In the manga[]
Emily makes her debut in A New Yo-kai Appears!! where Tomnyan tells his backstory to Nate. He was the pet of Emily who loved him very much however he died after saving Emily from being hit by a truck, causing her grief.
She reappears as a major character in Volume 13. In The Truth About Tomnyan, Tomnyan visits Emily's house to see that she is still grieving over his loss. Out of nowhere, a UFO appears, startling Tomnyan. Emily can't see it so Tomnyan suspects it is from a Yo-kai. The Ghoulfather, Agent X and members of the Ghoulies appear and Tomnyan tells them to leave but he is thrown aside. The Yo-kai enter the house, mentioning that they will stay awhile. The Ghoulfather notices Emily grieving and as he leaves, states that he'll make her wish come true. The Yo-kai disappear back into the UFO leaving Tomnyan questioning his words.
Tomnyan rushes back to Emily, worrying about her and she begins to cry, uttering his name. Tomnyan thinks she can see him but she intead runs over to a cat identical to when Tomnyan was alive. Tomnyan is distraught but is at least happy that Emily is smiling again with her new cat. As Tomnyan sees the picture Emily has of them, he realises that this outcome isn't right and that Emily should experience her grief for him naturally. With that, he vows to defeat The Ghoulfather so that the cat will disappear and Emily's life can return to normal.
In Friendship Wins Over All Else, Tomnyan returns to Emily's house, Nate, Whisper and Jibanyan watching from outside. Tomnyan watches Emily playing with her new cat and despairs that he'll make her upset all over again because her cat will die eventually just like him. Emily begins to cry, calling out Tomnyan's name. She confesses that she could see him all along but thought it would make it hard to say goodbye. She realised the cat wasn't Tomnyan because they were such good friends but pretended to be happy to make Tomnyan happy. Both of them realise their misunterstanding and embrace each other. The cat begins to fade away and Emily apologises to it while Tomnyan thanks it for making Emily happy in his stead. In the end, the two of them are shown together, Tomnyan in Emily's arms.

Relationships[]
Tomnyan[]
In the manga, Tomnyan and Emily are extremely close. Emily is in a depressed state after the death of Tomnyan, unable to overcome her grief. When a cat appears that shares the same appearance as Tomnyan, she reveals that she knew it wasn't him because she could recognise him so well and the cat just wasn't the same. Their bond is also solidified by the fact Emily can see Tomnyan as a Yo-kai which is only possible when a human and Yo-kai's bond is extremely strong. The ending of Volume 13 implies that the two of them stay friends, even though Tomnyan is now a Yo-kai.
