The Enma Clan (Japanese: エンマ種族 Enma Shuzoku) are a race of Yo-kai that are heavily known rule over the Yo-kai World. Each generation consists of a ruler and a servant, as well as a second-in-command ruler that can fill in their role in the case of an emergency.
Their symbol is represented by the kanji character (王 ou), which means "King" in Japanese.

Prior Events[]
The first ruler of the Yo-kai World is largely unknown, but the earliest is known to be Enma Meiou Maka who is hailed as the second for an unknown amount of time before he was replaced by several successors.
When Ancient Enma was crowned, he vowed to unite the realms of Yo-kai and human world. It was not until he realized that humans have corrupt influences on Yo-kai, and develops a grudge for them. Very few humans have attempted to fix the ties, but failed in the process which left Rinne (as well as the then-formed Goku Yo-kai being one of the Enma Clan's sworn enemies.
Shadow History[]
Ancient Enma had several daughters before Shien was eventually born as a son, whom vowed to become the next king of the Yo-kai World. Shien undertook several training sessions over the span of several years, but didn't feel like he was good enough, even when he worked hard.
Shien believed that if he had enough power, he could become the next ruler so he sent Tamamo to steal the souls of innocent humans in the human world. Tamano had taken multiple souls including one of Jack's mother, and Alistair's sister which lead them both to near-death experiences. Tamano says that this was caused by Ancient Enma's doing, leading Jack, Alistair and Tae to visit Ancient Enma in the Yo-kai World.
During the tournament held to become the next ruler of the Yo-kai World, Shien used his strength gathered from human souls to overpower the opposing Yo-kai on his team which made the fight tougher for the human visitors, as well as Gusto, Kappa and Zashiki-warashi. Ancient Enma disapproves of Shien's actions, saying that he needs to find power "within himself" rather than stealing from others, which lead them both to fighting each other.
Ancient Enma gets struck by Shien's sword right in the chest, and admits defeat while he depressingly reminds him that being a ruler isn't about power for his own but about earning others' power, rather than forcibly feeling drained in it. After Ancient Enma falls to the ground, his soul and power is taken by Shien, declaring himself as the new ruler of the Yo-kai World. The Yo-kai in the audience and even Zazel disapprove of the idea, with the latter trying to fight but Shien is too strong for him.
Thinking he is now powerful, Shien tries to struck the humans but Alistair saves Jack from getting hit revealing that Alistair was a dead spirit all along. He also reveals to have a Yo-kai Watch Elda God, summoning Kenshin Amaterasu to fight the strengthened Shien as well as powering up the Yo-kai into Godside forms. Badly hurt from the intense power the opposing Yo-kai possess, Shien's anger makes him take on a form that slowly evolves into Maou Shien that makes him destroy the stadium and lose the powered-up Godside Yo-kai of their forms.
Moments after getting back up, Ancient Enma realizes that Maou Shien could destroy the entire Yo-kai World if it isn't defeated. He further says that somebody needs to go inside to awaken Shien's inner conscience, with the exception of a Yo-kai. Alistair hesitantly accepts the offer as he's already dead and neither a human or Yo-kai, as he would do anything to save anyone, despite warnings from others. Ancient Enma gives Shien the ablility to levitate into spirits and goes inside Maou Shien to change his outlook.
Alistair manages to find Shien's inner conscience, but Maou Shien slowly transforms into a being called Overseer revealing that was his cause for hatred all along. They are all transported back to the human world, so Overseer could cause destruction, but a spirit flies out of him who turns out to be the newly-created Yasha Enma, whose soul is fused with Alistair and Shien's. They both fight while they summon Yo-kai, but Overseer gains the upper hand, proving to be even too strong with his Yasha Enma's significant power.
Just as about all hope is lost, Tae's grandmother brings an ancient sword where Suu-san recognizes it. He starts to equip the sword which transforms him into Gunshin Susanoo, gaining him even more immense power than before they all work together to take down Overseer. Even with their strengthened moves, they still prove no use until they work together with other Yo-kai to combine all their power and finally defeat Overseer once and for all.
After Overseer is defeated, the human souls were finally free, while Yasha Enma was tired from struggling to defeat him. He is transformed back into Alistair, but he depressingly bids farewell to Jack despite the latter's motivation to come back alive as a human. The reasoning for this is because he wanted to become the next ruler of the Yo-kai World whom he is proud of, as well as being inspired by Jack's kind actions towards Yo-kai and humans alike.
Despite what had happened, the memories of the events were erased by the Shadow History (Japanese: 黒歴史 Kurorekishi) in all of the Enma Clan for unknown reasons.
The Birth of Lord Enma[]
Lord Enma was born from the Alistair's and Shien's good spirit, likely raised inside the Enma Palace in the Yo-kai World over the course of several decades. Due to him being part of the Enma Clan, he was popular among many during his time at school, which made Lord Ananta jealous in return.
At an unknown point, Lucas Schiffer was born from Shien's "evil part" of his heart whom took the form of a regular human being, and started living in the human world. Duke Doggy and Aristokat also became Lord Enma's servants in the span.
McKraken's Takeover[]
Before his death, Ancient Enma made one final vow to his secondary ruler Zazel. He said to keep the ties of humans and Yo-kai broken due to their corrupt influences and thinking they hadn't changed since then, which led him to change Lord Enma's outlook on humans.
Chairman Squiddius McKraken partially took over the Yo-kai World shortly after Ancient Enma's death, where he ordered multiple Yo-kai to cause despair in human lives. A young boy named Nathan Adams had started to take notice of this issue when he even saw several Boss Yo-kai appearing in his hometown Springdale.
Others had rebelled against him, including Venoct who was one of the ambassadors for the Yo-kai World and most notably Nate who had befriended the Yo-kai in order to stop McKraken's actions. It had proved to be successful and temporarily restored orders of Yo-kai World, while Nate briefly bid farewell to the Yo-kai friends he had made before they eventually come back.
Restoring Human and Yo-kai Relations[]
Some time after McKraken's fall, Zazel orders Lord Enma to cause havoc in both the human and Yo-kai World relating to interactions with both humans and Yo-kai while going undercover as a human. He managed to get Nate and Hailey into some tight situations such as former temporarily dying and turning into a Yo-kai, as well as Yo-kai like Komasan and Komajiro having even more trouble taking care of a human baby boy by possessing nearby Yo-kai with a dark force.
Lord Enma realizes that humans interacting with Yo-kai aren't so bad after all, but Zazel still disapproves of his idea and seals him away into his bedroom, faking that he has caught the flu from humans. The news shocks everyone in the Yo-kai World, and even those wield Yo-kai Watches and tries to stop human and Yo-kai ties from being cut between the two.
After meeting up, the ties are suddenly broken, which left the Yo-kai to handle the issue themselves by travelling to the Enma Palace located in Wiihaiian Resort by airplane.

Sometime between the thirty year gap, Lord Ananta is crowned the new king and ruler of the Yo-kai World. He sealed Lord Enma away because he was jealous of his popularity and how he wasn't fully accepted due to his negative feelings of being a human and Yo-kai hybrid.
Zazel warns Lord Enma of the Onimaro invasion that is happening in the human realm, along with the return of Oniou Rasen and goes to set him free from an underground cell. After that, they both journey to find a weapon that can defeat the Onimaro. Lord Ananta stops them and attempts to fight against Enma and hopes to obtain Oniou Rasen's power to become king.
After Enma fully realizes Lord Ananta's feelings, they all journey to find the Fudou Raimenken sword in order to stop the Onimaro invasion. After many unsuccessful attempts to pull it out, the sword asks why they want the power which to them they respond with stopping Oniou Rasen but they reject their offer.
They all visit the human world where they meet Summer, Bruno and several other Yo-kai with an unconscious Cole who temporarily heals him and asks Summer to go into his mind to "cut off the darkness" within it, where the Kigan Gear turns into the Yo-kai Watch Ogre, giving him the ability to transform into Lord Acala as well as welding the Stormweaver, eventually defeating Oniou Rasen.
Some time after the fall of Oniou Rasen, Lord Ananta apologizes to Enma about what had happened earlier and offers to give his position of the Yo-kai World Ruler back to him, but Enma rejects the offer and agrees with him on being the king while he sets on a journey of his own with Zazel by his side.

They are given a chance to fight against the current ruler in the Enma Tournament which happen when the ruler is near the end of their lifespan.
Little is known what happens to the former ruler, but the first ten were sealed away.
