Appearances[]

Biology[]

Tekkaku is a heavily armored, humanoid Yo-kai.

His eyes have black scleras and bright blue irises.

His armor is a similar shade of red as typical royal Enma attire, with several black parts as well.

He wears a horned helmet decorated with the "王" (Japanese: Ō "king") kanji. He wears a large golden and purple cape that is decorated with the sun and moon symbols typical for Enma attire.

His belt buckle has three gems on it, which are colored red, green, and blue, and similar gems appear on the handle of his sword, the Enma Blade Roar.

The Enma Blade Roar is a regal gold and red sword with a black fuller with gold trimming and an ornamental symbol on the tops, the blade itself is forged from clear red crystal in wide straight edges, while the point of the blade resembles an arrowshape as the bottom blade next to the handguard and halfway up the middle is wide, curved and pointed slightly. The sword has three jewels in between the blade and the gold slightly curved crossguard with a aquamarine beaded tassal on both rounded sides. The blade has a black fuller, gold trimming and gold spiritual flames designed on them while each jewel has a unique symbol in them: Red on the top of the handguard, Blue on the top left of the handguard, and Green on the top right of the handguard. The hilt is mostly red on the top and black on the bottom, has a gold ring-like line in between the red and black parts of the hilt and has a gold pommel encasing a red orb.

The 10 hitodama that accompany him symbolize his status as the 10th Great King Enma.

Etymology[]

His title Enma Raou (Japanese: 閻魔羅王 Enma Raō) literally translates to "Gauze King Enma," and is taken from taking "Great King Enma" (Japanese: 閻魔大王 Enma Daiō) and replacing the kanji for "great" with the kanji for "gauze." However, the word "gauze" in this case is not meant literally, and is taken from "Enma Raja" (Japanese: 閻魔羅闍), the Japanese phonetic spelling of "Yamarāja," the Sanskrit name of Yama.

Origin[]

Being a King Enma, he is based on Yama, who is a deity of Hindu origin introduced into Japan by Buddhist monks, with the Buddhist version has Yama being is a dharmapala (wrathful god) said to judge the dead and preside over the Narakas ("Hells" or "Purgatories") and the cycle of saṃsāra.
