Nathan Adams (Japanese: 天野ケータ Amano Kēta) is the character that appears as the main protagonist of Yo-kai Watch anime series and Yo-kai Watch!. He uses a Yo-kai Watch that was given by Whisper after he gets freed from a capsule from the Crank-a-kai, and uses it to find hidden Yo-kai causing everyday problems.
In Yo-kai Watch Shadowside, Nathan Adams is now an adult, who is married to Katie Forester, and no longer uses the Yo-kai Watch.
Appearance[]
Nate's most recurring appearance consists of a red shirt with a star on the chest, grey trousers with a brown belt, and blue boots with red accents and a white sole, akin to a pair of high top sneakers.
In several episodes, Nathan wears different clothing. In Manjimutt: Part 4 until The Legend of Shogunyan, he is seen wearing an orange shirt with a white rim on each sleeve and collar, matching the star at his chest and a red sweater. He wears the same trousers and shoes. He wears those clothing as well in Gourmet School Lunch: Meal 4 Fried Chicken! until Yo-kai Yoink. He later re-appeared with the same clothing in Professor Vacant and the Mysterious Mansion until Sour Milk?.
However, in Yo-kai Grand Prix! until EP140 and EP166 until EP190, he wore new clothing based from the appearance of his clothing from Yo-kai Watch 3. He wears a blue shirt, a red short-sleeve jacket with white stars on each side, and white jeans. In Yo-kai Mistank until EP118, he wears a white shirt, black and white striped undershirt, and red sweater, and green jeans, and blue sneakers with stars on the side, but from EP141 until EP164 and EP191 until EP214, he wears the same clothing from Yo-kai Mistank.
In Yo-kai Watch!, Nathan wears the original outfit again, with the exception of the Yo-kai Watch being replaced with the Yo-kai Watch Elda K.

Nathan Adams was born as an average child, who had height, weight, and voice that sounded average. Throughout the years, he hated being called that and wished something extraordinary would happen in his lifetime.

Nate Meets Whisper

Nathan first appears in Yo-kai Are Real!, in which he tries to impress his friends with a stag beetle, to which Katie calls 'average'. Annoyed by this, Nate sets to find a rare beetle, and upon spotting a rare golden beetle, follows it to a strange capsule machine machine near a tree.
Nathan hears a strange voice which tells him to feed 'him' and, befuddled, he inserts a coin into it, receiving a gray capsule. Nathan tries to open it, and when he does, he inadvertently frees a Yo-kai named Whisper, who explains him about his origins and tries to offer his services to Nathan, much to his chagrin.
Arriving home, Nathan sees his parents arguing over eating some food to which he comments of being something trivial. Whisper then looks at the scene and notes it's 'her' fault, which confuses Nathan. Whisper then gives him the Yo-kai Watch and instructs Nathan to shine its light on their parents, upon which Nathan reveals Dismarelda.
Whisper explain that. Nathan tries to convince Dismarelda to leave the house, to which she replies she is afraid to do so for she had a fight with her husband as well. After Whisper brings said husband, Happierre, and him and Dismarelda reconcile, Nathan gets an explanation about the nature of Yo-kai, as well as their powers, while noting that he has stumbled into something big.
Nate's Model Zero
After befriending Yo-kai and collecting their Yo-kai Medals, Nate learns of a new Yo-kai Watch model called the Model Zero from Steve Jaws, the president of Yopple Inc. where the product came out as soon as possible. When Nate and Whisper get to the Yo-kai World, they find that the queue to the Yopple store is long and winding with other Yo-kai, including that of Jibanyan who was already in the middle of it.
A Yo-kai named K'mon K'mon suddenly breaks the queue, where Nate unexpectedly manages to get a Yo-kai Watch Model Zero. He later finds out that the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero works with a new type of Yo-kai Medal, and find out that he can interchange Yo-kai Watch models on the fly after Whisper accidentally swallows both of them by punching inside of his mouth.
Going Back to the Past
In Yo-kai Watch: The Movie, Nate's Yo-kai Watch suddenly disappears from the wrist of his hand in his sleep and starts to temporarily lose his memories of Yo-kai. A giant Yo-kai cat looks for him carelessly around Springdale by making several objects bigger before he eventually finds him and gets his memories back by shocking him.
Season 2 (EP077-EP150)[]
Nate's Yo-kai Watch Model U
Nate learns of another new Yo-kai Watch model in A New Watch!, called the Yo-kai Watch Model U, despite it not being available for public sale yet. After many several disappointments from Whisper, Nate notices that Hidabat has one of his own and lends his to Nate because he has trouble using it. Nate suddenly gets inspirited by Yo-kai Cornfused when asked about his opinion of it from Whisper.

Nate's Temporary Death
Whisper telling Nate about his unexpected death.
In M02, after avoiding getting crushed by pipes, Nate falls down a manhole and meets his demise. He is soon transported to the Yo-kai World where he becomes Fuu 2 and is tasked to inspirit a human being named Yuto Arima while also acting as his Yo-kai Companion. After coming into closer contact with Yuto Arima, he is sent back to his body as punishment to "live an average human life". The mysterious human from earlier gives Nate a mysterious purple Yo-kai Medal after Nate comes back to life inside the sewers.
Later on, Nate learns of Zazel cutting contact with the Yo-kai and human worlds, due to the ruler Lord Enma catching the flu from humans and notices that Jibanyan and Whisper are moving out of his bedroom. With no choice but to find out the full story, they decide to meet up with another Yo-kai Watch user named Hailey Thomas for the first time. Before they could fully get to know each other, the worlds both suddenly lose connection between humans and Yo-kai.

When the Yo-kai visit the Enma Palace and fight with Zazel and his servants Aristokat and Duke Doggy, they are transported there via a magic carpet that Lord Enma summoned in the human realm. Nate summons Tattletell to make Zazel spew the truth of why the Enma Clan dislikes humans, where he ends up telling the truth about their possible corrupt influences, that was passed down from the Yo-kai World's previous ruler before their death.
As Nate and Hailey spectate the other Yo-kai, the battle starts to suddenly hit it's climax when Zazel transforms himself into a monstrosity called Zazelmare, with powers combined from the servants. Nate decides to summon the purple Yo-kai Medal from earlier after he notices that it bears the symbol that was seen on the magic carpet, where it tries to make contact with Hailey's Yo-kai Watch thus combining their powers and giving them a temporary upgrade. Their plan manages to work as Lord Enma successfully calms down Zazelmare and admits defeat.

Nate's Lost Memories
Some time after the events of the original series, Nate ends up losing the ability to see Yo-kai in EX001. Jibanyan and Whisper try so hard to get his attention by moving the windows and objects around but they don't take much notice towards him. It wasn't until Jibanyan landed on top of his head, revealing that Wazzat drained Nate's memories of Yo-kai before he got them back eventually.
Whisper gives Nate a Yo-kai Watch Elda K, which was sent back after the Yo-kai Watch itself went under maintenance.

When Nate started to age, he lost the ability to see Yo-kai and the Yo-kai Watch itself was buried away beyond space and time. That also included him parting ways with both Jibanyan and Whisper. An unspecified amount of time later, he got married to Katie Forester and had children of their own, calling them Summer and Tate.
His two children would eventually end up having Yo-kai adventures of their own, but they do not seem to be aware of their father's own history with Yo-kai or even his old Yo-kai friends (who are now his children's Yo-kai partners) don't seem to be aware of them being Nate's children.
Nathan makes his first appearance in SS004, Sitting next to his wife Katie, having dinner with the family. He notices his son's strange behavior wondering if he's fine, Tate just says that he's not all that hungry but when Tate see's Mottainai-otoko he jumps from his seat causing both of his parents to get very worried about him.
Nathan makes another appearance in SS044 of the Shadowside anime, giving advice to Summer.

As with the Yo-kai he is friends with, Nathan likes Jibanyan (though he was appalled initially when Jibanyan moves to his house and behaves recklessly, and he even got into an argument with him) enough to be his first usual choice when summoning a Yo-kai, and his bond with him is strong enough to Jibanyan to take part in most of his antics.

Usapyon didn't interact much during their first meeting, yet they became good friends. This never prevents Nate from becoming a victim of his Invader Mode. Despite some flaws they may have while interacting, the two are close to an extent as Usapyon will normally stay at Nate's place whenever Hailey does something that upsets him gravely and fails to apologize, or sometimes even realize, for what she has done.
