Fusion (Japanese: 合成 Gōsei) is a process that combines two Yo-kai, two items, or an item and a Yo-kai, to create a piece of equipment/stronger and evolved Yo-kai for the player to use.
Overview[]
In the games, Fusions are usually performed via one of the Fusion Priests throughout the game, who will be able to combine the two selected Yo-kai or items together. Fusion is unlocked after doing certain Quests, which will allow the player to perform them at any time by speaking to an NPC at the available temples.
In Yo-kai Watch[]
Fusions are unlocked in Chapter 3, where the location of Blossom Heights is also available to be explored. The player can go over to Shoten Temple and talk to Mr. Zen, he will give a player a quest in which the player needs to befriend a Mochismo and Dulluma to unlock fusion. The player can fuse these two yo-kai by choice to try out fusion for the first time.
In Yo-kai Watch 2[]
Fusions work like they do in the last game, only for it to be accessible much earlier on. They can be unlocked after completing the Key Request Bam-Boom! Fusing! in the key quest segment of Chapter 3.
However, Fusions for select Yo-kai are now different while some of them are now only obtained by levelling them up.
In Yo-kai Watch Blasters[]
The player can fuse by talking to Nekidspeed in the Blasters House, however you must pay a fee of Oni Orbs for every Fusion. Fusion is unlocked at the start of Chapter 4, where you receive an item from Nekidspeed to optionally fuse with the first Yo-kai obtained from the befriending tutorial in Chapter 1, Mission 3.
In Yo-kai Watch 3[]
Fusions can be unlocked by completing the Cruisin' For Some Fusion Quest. Fusions can be performed at the East Pine Church in BBQ, Shoten Temple in Springdale, and the Temple of Virtue in Harrisville. Unlike in previous games, fusing Jibanyan into Thornyan or Baddinyan will forcefully unfuse the two Yo-kai afterwards, returning Jibanyan to the player as well as the new Yo-kai.

In the anime[]
Unlike the video games, where the fusion is performed as some sort of ritual, it's rather seen with Yo-kai colliding with one another. An example of this is with Jibanyan and Roughraff, whom bumped into each other during a fight, causing them to be fused into Baddinyan in Here Comes Roughraff.
Something that isn't possible in the video games is separation of the fused Yo-kai, with Baddinyan and Thornyan being the two exceptions in a cutscene from Yo-kai Watch 2. It can happen by a sharp material that "cuts" the Yo-kai into two, such as the blade Shogunyan uses in Shogunyan Wants To Cut Hard Things or if a Yo-kai wants to defuse by pulling themselves apart in EP091.
There are several fusions that only appear in the anime, like Whisshogun who was formed from Whisper and Shogunyan by accident and Iekabe, who was fused from House Partay and Noway. Also, Buchinyan is fused from Jibanyan and Whisper, a fusion that cannot be done with the Yo-kai in the games.
