Ss17 inari 1

As revealed in the series, Inari resides in the Inari Shrine. She was indebted to an old woman, who visited, cleans and offers fried tofu to her shrine since childhood. However, the woman's husband passed away, leaving her all alone to manage the shop. Inari wanted to repay her benefactor but was unable to leave her shrine, resulting from her desire to transform to her Shadowside form Tatarigitsune. She eventually terrorized the school towards male students playing ouija in an attempt to take over any boys.

In SS020, Inari is summoned, along with Summer's other Yo-kai friends, in order to watch Filmlin's movie. When the movie begins, she runs out of the room due to the scariness of the movie.

Etymology[]

"Tatarigitsune" means "cursed fox."

Origin[]

The name Inari refers to Inari Ōkami, the kami of rice fields, agriculture, and industry. Depicted as either male, female or androgynous depending on the cult, they are closely associated with the pure-white foxes who act as their messengers and acolytes, escorting them down from the mountains when harvest season comes (some even believe the kami themself is a fox). Fox statues decorate the Inari shrines all over the country, and they appreciate offerings of rice, sake or fried tofu. In particular, Inari-zushi (a dish made of rice and veggies stuffed in a fried tofu pouch) is named after the kami.

Trivia[]

  • She is the third of the four Shadowside Yo-kai that Summer describes as cute. The first being Junior, second being Lucky, while the last being Komajiro.
