Biology[]
Kabuking is a mechanical Yo-kai; he a blue-grey metal body, blue kumadori markings on his face, and long white and red hair that drags to the ground. He wears a green kabuki outfit with dark green and yellow stripes, and has a purple sash around his waist. He also carries a black paper umbrella with white swirl patterns resembling a traditional Japanese tomoe symbol.
Profile[]
Yo-kai Watch 2[]
Kabuking is a boss Yo-kai exclusive to Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters. He can be fought during the post-game through the request Gera Gera Goodbyes after clearing the request Getting Gera Gera Going in Gera Gera Resort. He can be fought daily.
Attacks
Tread The Boards - Stomps the ground, hitting a Yo-kai three times in succession.
Dance of the 8th Droid - Dances in a weird way, lowering all of the front row’s stats.
Surprise Umbrella - Attacks a Yo-kai with a random attribute.
Small Umbrella - Five umbrellas appear in the background. This attack is similar to Dame Demona’s Soul Steal attack, but the player has less time to target the umbrellas.
Time To Shoot? - The umbrellas in the background fire at random Yo-kai, dealing heavy damge. Note that this can be repelled by Scarasol’s Sun Guard Skill.
Glare - Turns to stare at one of the Yo-kai in the front row. The direction he’s looking is where he’ll fire his following attack. Kabuking will not glare at a fainted Yo-kai.
Purifying Rocket - Fires his hand in the direction of his glare for heavy damage. The attack will miss if the Yo-kai Wheel is rotated to have his glare pointed towards a fainted Yo-kai.
Bloom Barrage - Kabuking’s Soultimate Move. He spins his parasol in front of him, then puts it away and twirls his hair, creating a wind of cherry blossom petals to attack the front row three times. This instantly KOs most Yo-kai, unless they have high defense, have a Soultimate cancelling Skill, or are guarding. Directly after the attack, Kabuking proceeds to guard.
It is recommended to put a Scarasol holding a Stubborn Soul (Scarasol Soul + Impass Soul) on the player's team to absorb all the hits to make the battle a lot easier. Scarasol’s Skill, Sun Guard, repels Kabuking’s Surprise Umbrella and Small Umbrella attacks. Having a back row of Darknyans or Confuzes will also be beneficial, as their Skills (Night Guard and Dodge, respectively) allows Kabuking's Soultimate to be completely nullified. In the last two slots next to Scarasol, it is recommended to place one Yo-kai that does heavy damage, such as a Snartle or a Shogunyan, with a Sgt. Burly in the remaining slot.
Yo-kai Watch 3[]
Kabuking can be cranked from the Crank-a-kai with a Special Coin. Alternatively, Kabuking can be obtained in Blasters T as a Clu-T-fact reward in Statue of Clunubis ④.
He is required for the Just Bossing Around Yo-kai Circle.
Yo-kai Watch Blasters[]
Kabuking can be fought in the mission Witness the Great Kabuking! After beating him in his mission, Kabuking can be challenged in Big Boss Mode.
Attacks
Tread the Boards - Stomps the ground three times in rapid succession. Easily avoidable by moving away from Kabuking upon the AoE warning's appearance.
Smash Hit - Fires his rocket hand in a straight line. If hit, it deals massive damage. The hand continues moving until it passes off the screen.
Standing Ovation - Uses his umbrella to spawn five explosions on random areas near him. These explosions deal heavy damage if hit.
Break a Leg - Spawns up to three umbrellas that follow Yo-kai and stun them with medium damage if hit. If all the umbrellas hit Kabuking, he will be stunned.
Bloom Barrage (Soultimate) - Whips his hair around five times to create a cherry blossom petal tornado. It is very easy to avoid, however it deals massive damage per hit.
Additionally, a spotlight event will happen at random times. When this happens, the screen goes slightly darker for a second, Kabuking stops attacking, and a spotlight appears in a random position on the stage. If Kabuking reaches the light first, he will become invincible for about two seconds, recover 3000 health points, and gain a massive boost to all stats. If the light hits a member of your party first, they will receive a massive stats boost, a healing Inspirit and an instant recovery of 299 HP. Kabuking will also be briefly stunned.

Etymology[]
- "Kabukiroid" is a portmanteau of "kabuki" and "android."
- "Kabuking" is a portmanteau of "kabuki" and "king."
Origin[]
Kabuking's appearance is based on that of a kabuki actor. Kabuki (which can be translated as "the art of singing and dancing") is a form of dance-drama that originated in Japan in the 17th century, of which the founding is attributed to the miko and dancer Izumo no Okuni. Kabuki can be considered Japan's first form of popular entertainment in history, and plays usually focus on history-based epics and the lives of the common people.
In particular, Kabuking's looks evoke the traditional Edo style kabuki, with its extravagant and multicolored costumes, make-up, and imposing mie (dramatic poses struck during a scene's climax).
Trivia[]
- When Kabuking was added into the North American version of Wibble Wobble, he was called "Kabukiroid" instead. This was fixed later on in the North American version before its shutdown.
- Kabuking's Soultimate was named "Rainbow Flowers Raining" in Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, but it wasn't changed during the release of the Psychic Specters.
- Kabuking is one of the few boss Yo-kai who are not malicious.
- Kabuking's random nicknames are: Beck, Poppet, Bradley and Smith.
