"A frog living at a certain shrine who was crushed beneath a guardian lion-dog statue! 'I may have died suddenly, but I’ll keep on living mongeero!´ With guts like that, he was born again as a Yo-kai."
Yo-kai Medallium biography
"The toad Yo-kai Komajiro's sprawling Shadowside! He has a strong sense of justice and a straightforward personality. If he sees a suspicious person, he'll pounce on them, but he's oblivious to his own suspicions."
While invoking the appearance of Komajiro, this particular Komajiro appears to be a different individual, mostly due to the fact that they have different origins.
His catchphrase is “Mongero!”, which is a combination of “gero”, referring to a frog's croaking, and “monge!” meaning something like “amazin’“, which is the catchphrase of the Koma brothers in the original Yo-kai Watch series.
In his Shadowside form, he retains his face features from his Lightside form; however, his limbs and body are more humanoid in shape, making him taller.

In the anime[]
Prior events[]
Komajiro was originally a regular frog who bonded with the Arihoshi family's pet dog Nobushige. He liked to ride on Nobushige's head as he patrolled the town. One day during a snowstorm, both Nobushige and the frog were crushed under a lion-dog statue, which was accidentally caused by a young Mitsue Arihoshi misfiring her magic while practising. The next day, he and Nobushige were buried by the other members of the Arihoshi family.
When Nobushige became the Yo-kai currently known as Komasan, he named his frog friend Komajiro. While Komasan thought that perhaps Komajiro didn't become a Yo-kai, the truth is that he hibernated after becoming one.
Yo-kai Watch Shadowside[]
Episode 27 marks Komajiro's debut in the anime, where he rises from his grave. He wanders around for a bit before meeting the Yo-kai Detective Agency and reuniting with Komasan next to a pond in a forest. They return home, where they reflect upon the circumstances of their death. Komajiro concludes that someone must have killed them intentionally, and everyone resolves to find the culprit. After Minamoto is summoned and reveals the culprit to be Mitsue, Komajiro's temper flares and he attacks her in his Shadowside. After a short battle, Mitsue explains that she didn't know that the statue she knocked over was the same one that killed him and Komasan. Both of them forgive her, and Komajiro gives Summer his Keystone. Sly then shows up, despite having done nothing to help, and introduces himself to Komajiro. He immediately attacks him by hitting his eye with his tongue repeatedly due to a natural hatred of snakes as a frog.
