Etymology[]
Tereteru-bozu is a play on teru teru bōzu (see #Origin) and tere (Japanese: 照れ,bashfulness).
Mr. Blue-Shy is a portmanteau of the word "shy" and the Electric Light Orchestra song, Mr. Blue Sky.
"Timorato Buendía" is a combination of "timorato" (timorous) and a contraption of "buen día" (good day).
Origin[]
Mr. Blue-Shy is based on the Teru teru bōzu, a small traditional handmade doll made of white paper or cloth that in shape and construction they are essentially identical to ghost dolls, such as those made at Halloween. This amulet is supposed to have magical powers to bring good weather and to stop or prevent a rainy day.
In the modern day, children make teru teru bōzu out of tissue paper or cotton and string and hang them from a window when they wish for sunny weather, often before a school picnic day. Hanging it upside down acts like a prayer for rain.
Trivia[]
Mr. Blue-Shy does not have a real life medal counterpart.
Mr. Blue-Shy's "random" nicknames are: Teru, Shydon, Blushky, and Rain.
