Nate's Unfortunate Day is the second chapter in the Yo-kai Watch: Wakuwaku Nyanderful Days manga series.
Plot[]
Katie meets Nate on the way to school
Katie Forester brushes her teeth with Whisper and Jibanyan before walking to school with both of them. Katie tells Jibanyan to behave before seeing Nate, who walks to school with Katie. Nate excitedly tells Katie they'll be getting strawberry milk at lunch today, as Whisper asks Katie if Nate is her boyfriend. Katie denies this, and tells him Nate is too average and that it would be boring to go on a date with him, right in front of him. Nate tells Katie how cruel that is, and Katie replies saying girls want a life of excitement and thrills, as Nate awkwardly resigns. Katie realises how ordinary people can't see Yo-kai as Jibanyan threatans Nate to "stay away from Katie" to no avail. Katie asks if there are any other Yo-kai, and Whisper tells her about Yo-kai who like to play tricks on people. He says Yo-kai especially like inspiriting simple minded people because of how easy it is. After hearing this, Katie stares at Nate as he continues to sing about strawberry milk.
Nate in a fancy dress
Later, Katie and Nate are eating lunch at school, with Katie giving some of her food to Jibanyan. Katie then sees Nate, which causes her to spit out her milk on Whisper, as he is wearing a massive dress. Nate tells her that it isn't nice to spray her lunch everywhere, and tells her "a lady is always better prepared when she looks her best". As he goes off to thank their teacher for the lunch, causing Bear and Eddie to look in shock, Katie thinks this is all because she called him average, and comments that this is not what she meant by excitement. Whisper reminds her that this could be a Yo-kai's doing, and she scans the room, finding the Yo-kai Dazzabel.
Dazzabel shows herself
As Katie tells Dazzabel to get away from Nate, Dazzabel remarks that Katie has horrible manners, and refuses to leave Nate, as he was the easiest person to inspirit in the school. Dazzabel tells Katie her name and says she will make Nate cute and fashionable. As Katie begs Dazzabel to release him, Jibanyan tells her that Dazzabel is lonely. Katie, Whisper and Jibanyan all put on dresses themselves, as Dazzabel tells them what great fashion sense they have. An embarassed Katie asks her again to release Nate, which she agrees to since "girls are much more stylish". Dazzabel then gives Katie her Yo-kai Medal. As Katie thinks about how she gained a new friend, she notes that Nate probably lost a few friends. Meanwhile, an embarrassed Nate wonders why he dressed like a girl.
