Professor Plumage (Japanese: なぞトキ Nazotoki) is a Rank B Wind-attribute Yo-kai of the Mysterious tribe introduced in Yo-kai Watch 3.

Professor Plumage is a crested ibis bird with white feathers, a black long beak, a red face, and red legs. The tips of his wings are pale pink. He dons a familiar brown top hat and glasses while carrying around a handle cane.

He can make whoever he inspirits act like a detective, as if they're trying to sleuth a mystery.

Professor Plumage can be found in the Sparkopolis Junk Alley, the Shady Parking Lot and the Daydream Domain at night.

He can also be found in Blasters T in the Cluphinx Clenched Paw ① and the Masked Labyrinth.

He is required for the The Mad Hatters Yo-kai Circle.

Etymology[]

  • "Nazotoki" is a combination of nazotoki (謎解き, "to solve a mystery") and toki (とき, "ibis").
  • "Professor Plumage" is a combination of "Professor Plum," the character from the board-game Cluedo ("Clue," in North America), and "plumage," another word for feathers.
  • "Profesor Avertijo" is combination of "Professor Layton" and "Ave" (Bird) with "Acertijo" (Riddle), but due text limitations is shortened as "Prof. Avertijo".
  • "Professor Ibisyoso" is a combination of "professor," "Ibis," and possibly "misterioso" (mysterious).

Trivia[]

  • Professor Plumage's "random" nicknames in Yo-kai Watch 3 are: Hershel, Fawkes, Taro, and Beakton.
    • Fawkes may be a reference to Fawkes, a phoenix from the Harry Potter series.
    • Hershel is a reference to Professor Hershel Layton (expanded on below).
  • Professor Plumage has a great deal of references to Professor Hershel Layton, the protagonist of the Professor Layton franchise, which is also produced by Level-5.
    • His hat is exactly the same as Professor Hershel Layton's.
    • His Soultimate uses a sound effect from the Professor Layton games when a puzzle has been answered.
    • One of his random nicknames is "Hershel."
  • Professor Plumage does not have a real life Yo-kai Medal counterpart.
  • Due to in-game text limitations, his English name is shortened to "Prof. Plumage."
