Etymology[]

  • "Annojoe" is a wordplay on an'nojō (案の定, "sure enough, just as expected") and ano Joe (あのジョー, "that Joe").
  • "Rocky Badboya" is a combination of Rocky Balboa, the title character of the Rocky film series, and "Bad boy" being altered to have a similar phonetic with his last name of Balboa.
  • "Rocky Malrolla" is a combination of Rocky Balboa, the title character of the Rocky film series, and "Mal rollo" (Bad feeling).

His diminutive Yo-kai coach that accompanies him is referred to as "Patch", a direct reference to the eyepatch it wears.

Origin[]

Rocky Badboya is a parody of Jou "Joe" Yabuki, the protagonist of Ashita no Joe, a famous boxing manga by Ikki Kajiwara, with his companion corresponding to Danpei Tange, an eye patch-wearing retired boxer who acts as Joe's coach.
