Etymology[]

  • "Sainome Nyūdō" translates as "Dice Eyes Monk."
  • "Bolilete" is a combination of "Botar" (Throw) and "Cubilete"(dice cup).
  • "Lanchu" is a corruption of lanciare (to throw).
  • "Knobold" is a combination of "knobeln" (to play dice) and "Kobold" (leprechaun).

Origin[]

Rollen might be based on the youkai called tsurube-otoshi: appearing as a huge, grinning disembodied head, this creature likes to take residence in the thick of pine or kaya forests. It rolls around or suddenly drops from the treetops to startle passerby humans or even prey on them, only to disappear back into the foliage just as quickly, laughing and taunting those below. These sudden motions, reminiscent of a bucket going up and down a well, are what this youkai owes its name to (meaning "bucket drop"). It is also believed to hurl stones or actual well buckets at its victims.

Trivia[]

RollenJPArtwork
  • Dubbles and Rollen are the first Yo-kai to have minor artwork changes by region, with the onomatopoeic Japanese goron (ごろん) sound being removed from international versions of it.
    • Strangely, the original artwork was kept in earlier versions of Yo-kai Watch Land before it was changed in an update. Despite the fix, the original artwork is still seen in the Heartful Yo-kai banner in the Tribe Of The Day section.
  • Rollen's "random" nicknames are: Eyeroll, Roland, Bigface, and Mr. Dice.
