Etymology[]

  • Mazinkhamun is a portmanteau of Mazinger Z (Japanese: マジンガーZ Majingā Zetto) and Tutankhamun (Japanese: ツタンカーメン Tsutankāmen). It may contain a secondary pun on "Mask" (Japanese: 仮面 Kamen), referencing how he wears one over his true face.
  • "Sarcophacurse" is a portmanteau of "sarcophagus", a type of coffin, as well as "curse", referencing his soultimate move.
  • "Sarcophage" is derived from "sarcophage" ("sarcophagus").
  • "Faorone" is a corruption of "faraone" ("pharaoh").
  • "Sarkoplag is a portmanteau of "Sarkophag" ("sarcophagus") and "plagen" ("to plague").

Origin[]

Sarcophacurse is based on the sarcophagus of famous Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun, as well as the iconic super robot series Mazinger Z, which is also where this Yo-kai's face and Japanese name borrows from.

Sarcophacurse's Soultimate is based on the infamous Curse of the pharaohs, curses laid down to protect the pharaohs from potential tomb raiders. This phenomenon took root with the excavation of Tutankhamun's hidden tomb, in which where it was said that it took the lives of several people days after the excavation, including the leader of said excavation Howard Carter, even though his death was more than 10 years afterwards. .

Sarcophacurse’s design also invokes the Pretenders toys from Transformers franchise or Cofagrigus from Pokémon Black and White.

Trivia[]

  • Due to text limitations, his name is shortened to "Sarchopha."
