Biology[]
Saya is a pink skinned, blue eyed female samurai Yo-kai who wears a long, black headband over her forehead and her ivory hair that faints to pale pink on her front bangs framing the right side of her face while her back hair is worn in a double ponytail by a purple beaded band with a golden bell. Saya wears a white kimono with a purple sash on both sides, a blue yukata, a dark pink hakama, white tabi socks and straw sandals with blue rope. She wields a long katana.
In her Shadowside form, Makenki is taller, has black flame markings on her arms, and longer hair with two black strands standing over the ponytail. Makenki now wears a kimono with a white outer part with a black loop pattern, a pink inner kimono, and a dark pink lower kimono part that faints to black with a pink loop pattern. She also has white tape around her calves while wear black Okobo Pokkuri Geta sandal with blue sandal thongs. She wield a long katana with orange and silver triangle pattern.
According to her Ukiukipedia entry, Saya recently became a fully fledged samurai Yo-kai after training for a long time. While she has a competitive nature and hates losing, she doesn't draw her sword easily, exercising some degree of restraint. Her Shadowside can be said to be Saya letting go of said restraint to go all out on a foe she deems powerful, battling with a sword fighting style that is described as "like a princess dancing with a sword in her hand".

Etymology[]
- Saya's name is pronounced similarly to the Japanese word for a scabbard (鞘, Saya), likely a nod to how she doesn't draw her blade from it unless necessary in her Lightside Form. The Kanji used for her name also ties into her fighting style used for Shadowside Form, with 紗 (Sa, gauze/thin silk) signifying that it is refined/graceful while 夜 (Ya, Night) draws on connotations with the night with mystery and hidden depths to symbolize her restraint and experience when using the sword.
- Makenki translates roughly to "Demon Sword Princess", alluding to her fighting style.
Trivia[]
- Saya is possibly a counterpart of sorts to fellow Yo-kai Watch 4++ addition Itashikatanashi. Both are Yo-kai from the Goriki Tribe who wield swords, and both restrain themselves from using their weapons unless needed (though Saya does it out of discipline and Itashikatanashi does it out of what appears to be guilt over accidentally killing someone) while in their Lightside Forms but unleash their true power in their Shadowside Forms.
