Springdale is known to be a region of it's own as revealed in Yo-kai Watch 3, consisting of surrounding settlements. In the Japanese version, it is set in a fictitious country called Japon (Japanese:
Overview[]
The geography of Springdale is heavily based on Japan, with it's culture, aesthetics and traditions being represented. Though there are places like restaurants, schools and other public areas, shrines, hot springs and traditional Japanese restaurants also exist. The map on the globe is also shaped exactly like it's real-life equivalent.
In the English localization of the games and anime, the Japan setting is not mentioned at all or is renamed to America in some instances. For example, many depictions of Japan on the map is replaced with North America (most notably in Nate's bedroom). Despite many of the changes, cars still drive on the left, children still wear slippers at school and oriental areas like shrines remain.
History[]
It is apparently based heavily on real-life events that have occurred, such as Ishida Mitsunari's (called Shogun Waitington in the localized English version) participation in the Battle of Sekigahara that occurred in 1601 A.D.
Some Yo-kai have been known to reside in the human world for centuries.
One notable difference are Yo-kai attacking Springdale for their own personal gain, rather than inspiriting humans out of pure boredom or by force. Such events are known to have happened in recent times where they have welded the Yo-kai Watch and have made first contact with spiritual beings.
