Sternyan (Japanese: ガチニャン, Gachinyan) is a Rank S Yo-kai of the Tough tribe.

Biology[]

Sternyan is a variant of Jibanyan with black bob cut hair and fire-like flames. He also has black eyebrows and a white star in each pupil. True to his name, he has a very serious expression.

In the Japanese version of the game, Sternyan can be freed from the Crank-a-kai through Y-Money, Special Coins, Five-Star Coins, Orange Coins G, Yoroz Mart Coins, and the S Select-a-Coins.

In the European version, Sternyan is only available through the Crank-a-kai using Y-Money.

In the American version, he appeared during "The Advent of Hinozall" in October 2017 on the second of the event's hidden stages, on the event map "Springdale Business Tower 11th Floor."

Though not a separate Yo-kai, Sternyan briefly appears in EP151 when he gets serious in the middle of a game of karuta.

Etymology[]

His name is a combination of Gachi (Japanese: ガチ, "serious") and nyan, ("meow").

His English name is a combination of stern and nyan.

Trivia[]

Sternyan was modeled after voice actress Etsuko Kozakura, who voices Jibanyan and several cat Yo-kai in the series.
- Gachinyan was also Etsuko Kozakura's nickname for playing Wibble Wobble very serious during a few Niconico live streams.
An unused model of Sternyan can be found in the files of Yo-kai Watch 3, and Yo-kai Watch Busters 2, implying that he was meant to be playable.
