Summer Adams (Japanese: 天野ナツメ Amano Natsume) is one of the main characters in the Yo-kai Watch series, who first appeared in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King and Yo-kai Watch Shadowside, and as a playable character in Yo-kai Watch 4.

She wields the Yo-kai Watch Arcane, which was given to her by Whisper to originally stop the Oni King Rasen from invading Sakura Motomachi. It has the ability to summon Yo-kai via Keystones, in a similar manner to the original Yo-kai Watch. Summer is also the reincarnation of Juno after her awakening.

In Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, she has her Rank Z Awoken form called Oni-hime Kakusei Natsume (Japanese: 鬼姫覚醒・ナツメ Oni-hime Kakusei Natsume), and is a playable Yo-kai of the Charming tribe.

In Yo-kai Sangokushi: Kunitori Wars, her Awoken form is a Rank Sho Yo-kai.

Appearance[]

Summer is a young girl with dark brown eyes and hair. She wears her hair in braids, similar to how her great-grandmother used to when she was young, and also wears a high school uniform consisting of a white shirt, a pale-yellow vest, a blue blazer, a pink bowtie, black skirt and knee-socks, and brown shoes. Otherwise, she wears a white t-shirt with a red collar and red sleeves, with a small heart in the middle, as well as jean shorts and red hi-tops with dark gray socks. Overall, her face and bangs resembles like her father, and it was noted in SS015, Atsushi Kamamoto notes her height, hairstyle, and face are all average.

In her semi-awoken form, her head grows a pair of small horns, gains long sharp red colored nails, and her eyes become a deep red color. She also sports a deep red eye shadow like markings on her eyelids and emits a dark blue aura (due to the effects of the oni tribe barrier). Her hair becomes loose of their braids when exhibiting her powers. In SS047, she was shown to emit a pink aura instead of a blue one.

In her fully awoken state, she has pointed ears, longer horns, and chin length hair. She wears a red short sleeved dress with puffy sleeves, a purple ribbon belt, yellow trim and three cyan beads on the front, as well as black shorts and black flats. She also has a red bindi on her forehead.

Personality[]

Summer has a similar personality to her father in that she cares for both her human and Yo-kai friends. Ever since her life was saved by a certain someone when she was a child, she's determined to always help those who are in need. Her anger can scare Yo-kai when pushed to her limits, which she inherited from her father.

She can sometimes get irritated with pushy and overbearing Yo-kai, like Sly, similarly to how Nate was annoyed with Whisper.

Relationships[]

Saki Machida[]

Saki is Summer's best friend at school. They're close, especially in the M04 manga where Summer is visibly distraught after Saki is turned into an Oni by the Onimaro. The safety of Saki is Summer's driving force throughout the entire manga and she is overjoyed once she is returned to normal at the end, jumping into her arms to embrace her.

Adams Family[]

Summer's Family

Summer's Family

Tate Adams[]

She is his older sister and cares a lot about him, a lot, but sometimes gets irritated with him in the fact Tate constantly tries to deny the existence of Yo-kai. If Tate’s life is in danger, she will stop at nothing to save him.

Nathan Adams[]

She is Nate's daughter and his successor as the bearer of the Yo-kai Watch. She looks up to her father for advice, as shown in SS044. In the game and manga, Summer was surprised upon learning that the legendary "Yo-kai Watch User", was none other than her own father, discovering that Jibanyan and Whisper were actually friends with him in the past.

As she travels on an adventure with Nate, she learns a lot about her father, who also befriended Yo-kai in the past, as Summer was amazed of her father's uncanny ability to adapt unexpected situations and able to make friends with Yo-Kai from the 1960s such as Hovernyan.

The relationship between 11-year old Nate and Summer is similar to the relationship with her brother, Tate, where they have developed a sibling-like bond due to their similar tempers. For example: their annoyance, rage, sense of justice, companionship towards Yo-kai, and maturity when it comes to serious threats.

Katie Adams[]

She is Katie's daughter.

Yo-kai Detective Agency[]

Cole[]

She met Cole when they were in elementary school when she had scratched her knee and he had helped her. However, they eventually grew apart and didn't interact much until the events of the Onimaro, where she was against Cole, who was chosen to wield the Kigan Gear. Shortly after that, she cured the darkness in his heart by showing him that his parents cared for him and what would've happened if he opened the door on his birthday and when he came home from school. Since then, she and Cole have been shown to have a strong friendship. In SS047, it is shown that he and Summer, alongside Bruno, had known each other in their past lives.

Bruno[]

She met Bruno during the events of the Onimaro while she was running away from Sly's Shadowside form. The two are shown to be on good terms with one another, however, she tends to disrespect him and his actions.

Isabelle[]

Summer quickly became friends with Isabelle after she transferred to her school and got involved with the Yo-kai Detectives' incidents. Summer and Isabelle usually hang out together and get along pretty well. Whenever a dangerous Yo-kai appears, Summer will always jump in to protect Isabelle.

Oni Tribe[]

Theo[]

A classmate of Summer, the human disguise of Shutendoji, and a powerful Oni tribe Yo-kai. Summer discovered his true identity during the incident with Arachnia. He offers Summer his unconditional loyalty after he discovers she is the reincarnation of the Princess that he has been searching for, in which she is annoyed by. Despite being told not to conquer the Yo-kai world, he is still determined to reawaken the princess fully inside of her.

Voidera[]

Her homeroom teacher at school, a subordinate of Shutendoji and a powerful Oni tribe Yo-kai. Summer learnt of his true identity during the Arachnia incident. Upon finding out she was Juno's reincarnation, he swore loyalty to her alongside Shutendoji. He even went as far as sacrificing himself when Overseer was planning to attack Summer with the humans he was controlling.

Juno[]

Juno is the past life of Summer's soul and "the princess" Shutendoji and Voidera were looking for. Summer was initially scared of what Juno was like, based on the very little knowledge she had on Juno. Despite being scared, Summer was determined to awaken her power in order to put a stop to Overseer. In SS047, she manages to awaken Juno's spirit within herself by recalling the thoughts Juno had before reincarnating. In SS049, Juno's spirit leaves Summer's body.

Yo-kai Watch 4[]

Summer is one of the six playable human characters in Yo-kai Watch 4.

In Chapter 2, which takes place prior to Nate arriving in the future, she and the Yo-kai Detective Agency solve cases around town. Later, Lord Ananta tells her to be on the lookout for the "Legendary Yo-Kai Watch User", which Summer surprisingly learns that it was her father, Nathan Adams.

Nate meets her at the end of Chapter 1, where she, along with the other two Detective Agency members, save him, Whisper, and Jibanyan from a rampaging Sly. She then introduces herself as Nate's daughter, much to the surprise of everyone.

In Chapter 3, she, along with Cole, Bruno, and Nate, help solve more cases around town. Eventually, it is revealed that both Tate and Summer are fading away, due to a time paradox. The group goes to the present day to try and fix it. The paradox is resolved after Sgt. Burly stops inspiriting Katie, causing her to lose interest in Nate. With Summer continuing to exist, the group decides to go retrieve the Suzaku Soutenzan. The group successfully obtains it, but get ambushed by Shutendoji and Voidera on their way back. They end up escaping, but end up in the past.

In Chapter 4, Summer, along with Cole, Bruno and Nate, are stuck in the past. She summons Merameraion to keep the group warm in the cold. She helps Jack, Alistair and Tae befriend three "powerful" Yo-kai, and then helps Jack obtain the Yo-kai Watch Elder Zero. She, alongside Cole and Bruno, then return to their time period.

In Chapter 5, Summer, alongside the rest of the Detective Agency, go to the present day to help Nate and Hailey deal with an infestation of Yo-kai from the future. She later helps Usapyon save Hailey from Fukurou, who believes that Hailey is the princess Shutendoji is looking for. At the climax of the chapter, Summer, along with Nate, Bruno, Cole, and Katie defeat a malice-infested Fukurou.

In Chapter 6, she and Katie participate in a contest, but lose to Isabelle. Similar to the anime, Isabelle then joins the Detective Agency and helps solve mysteries around town, and eventually Lady Arachnia awakens and breaks free from Isabelle. As only the Genbu Hotenfu can cut through Arachnia's webs, Summer and the rest of the group set out to obtain it. The group successfully does so, defeats Lady Arachnia, and saves a severely weakened Isabelle. Summer uses an unknown mysterious power to heal Isabelle, which Shutendoji recognizes as the power of the princess.

In Chapter 7, Summer and the rest of the group return to the past to help Jack and friends defeat Tamano no Mae. They are unsuccessful, and Tamano steals Tae's soul before retreating to the Yo-kai World. Summer, Jack, Alistair and the rest of the Yo-kai Watch Masters head to the Yo-kai World in pursuit. The group successfully defeats Tamano this time, who returns Tae's soul. Tamano then says that the souls belonging to Jack's mom and Alistair's sister have been received by Shien, before disappearing. Jack then decides to join Summer and the rest of the Yo-kai Watch Masters, creating the main group of 6 playable characters.

In Chapter 8, Summer, along with the other Masters set out to find the cause of a mysterious affliction infecting Yo-kai. Summer begins to have dreams involving a mysterious black sun. After one of those said dreams, she decides to go outside to clear her head, and unbeknownst to her, is followed by Tate. She is then attacked by Shutendoji. Summer then awakens as the princess, Juno, after Shutendoji attacks Tate. Shutendoji then explains how the full Sacred Armory is required to fully awaken Summer's powers. Later, Voidera, infected by the same mysterious affliction, attacks Shutendoji and Summer. He is dispatched by Shutendoji, who obtains the Wildfire Blaze. Summer, the rest of the Masters, and Shutendoji, then set out to obtain the final part of the Sacred Armory, the Tiger's Talon and succeed. Shutendoji then starts the awakening process, which actually releases Overseer. Lord Enma and Zazel appear to try and stop Overseer, but are unsuccessful, as Enma gets turned to stone and disappears.

In Chapter 9, Summer, Alistair, Tae and the rest of the Masters head to a tournament held by the previous Lord Enma in the Yo-kai World. The group learns that the tournament was created by Ancient Enma to show his son, Shien, what it is like to be a true king. Summer, Alistair and the rest of the Masters win their way through the tournament, and eventually face off against Shien. Shien wipes the floor with the group, and attempts to kill Alistair. He is unsuccessful, as it is revealed that Alistair is already dead. Shien is then defeated by Jack, Alistair and three truly powerful Yo-kai. Overseer then warps through time itself to defeat the group, and is defeated by the power of six Yo-kai Watches and Yasha Enma.

In Chapter 10, Summer and the rest of the Yo-kai Watch Masters find out that Overseer was not truly defeated. They head to the now destroyed Enma Palace to defeat Overseer once and for all. Along the way, they defeat an The Gloom infected Lord Ananta before reaching the final battle. Summer uses her powers as the princess to defeat Overseer once and for all. However, Overseer is still not truly defeated. He warps Summer and the rest of the Masters to a twisted and warped version of present day, where a black sun looms over Mt. Wildwood, where Overseer challenges Summer, Nate, Katie, Cole, Bruno and Jack to a battle that decides the fate of the human and Yo-kai world. After Lord Enma appears and weakens Overseer enough, Summer is able to fully transform into Juno to truly, for real this time, defeat Overseer.

After this, she, along with Cole and Bruno, return to the future, but before they leave, she expressed happiness upon meeting Nate and Katie for not only of learning of her parents, but also yokai watch masters like her, she asked her past version of Nate to always be together with Katie as she mentioned her as "Mom", which surprises them, only for the former became confused, while the latter was laughing upon realizing who Summer was referring to. She waves and tells him that she will see him in the future, fondly addressed him "Dad" before she leaves.

Yo-kai Watch 4[]

Summer is one of the six playable Yo-kai Watch Masters in the main story of Yo-kai Watch 4. She is unlocked at the start of Chapter 2, alongside Cole.

As a Yo-kai Watch Master, Summer is one of the two support oriented characters. Whereas Katie focuses mainly on healing, Summer focuses more on buffing and overall support. She gets access to buffs that increase the Defense and Spirit Defense of all allied Yo-kai, on top of a healing beam, which acts similarly to giving YP to allies. Her Yo-ki attacks have the longest range of all the Masters, and do average damage.

Her first "Watcher Technique" (which acts similarly to a Yo-kai's Soultimate) greatly raises the Defense and Spiritual Defense of allies. After a certain point in the story, she unlocks a secondary one, which allows her to deal massive amounts of damage from long range.

The Reveal[]

Summer in process of awakening

Summer in process of awakening

In SS037, Tate was kidnapped by Shutendoji and Voidera, who wanted to trade him for Cole's Sacred Armory in order to awaken the Princess and take over the Yo-kai World. Shutendoji guided Summer and the others into a magical field that enhanced the powers of Oni tribe Yo-kai. As soon as she took a step inside the barrier, Summer began feeling strange, even showing signs of her eyes glowing red (the barrier itself made her turn into an evil malicious girl).

With much effort, they managed to save Tate. However, Shutendoji drove them into a corner. It was then that an agent of Overseer appeared and quickly defeated Shutendoji and Voidera. When it set its sights on , a mysterious energy awakened inside of her. This "something" easily vanquished Overseer's agent with overwhelming Oni tribe power. Afterwards, Summer returned to normal and Theo knelt in front of her, claiming that she is the reincarnation of Juno and thus the Princess that he was looking for. When Theo stated that now the princess has been found, they can conquer both the human and Yo-kai worlds. However, Summer declined the plan as she had no intention of conquering the Yo-kai world, especially after what he and Voidera put her and her friends through.

In SS038, she is seen walking to Shirayuki shrine alongside Theo and Ganryuu Shimanouchi. She was shown to be annoyed with the way with Theo. She later to them to leave for in which they complied. Theo explains that the magic field that enhanced the power of Oni tribe Yo-kai was the reason for her temporary awakening as the Princess. She will only regain Juno's memories and full powers once they collect all 5 Sacred Armory.

In SS043, Summer had the strange feeling of being watched. To the point of having Sly and Theo act as her bodyguards and yet to impress her. Later in the evening, she is being chased by civilians who seem to be possessed, which later turned out to be the work of Overseer who claims to have found Juno. But Summer rebuts that she isn't Juno. At the sound of her scream, Voidera, Shutendoji and Sly went to her rescue. Soon, after Voidera shields Summer and becomes infected by the The Gloom, he and Shutendoji disappear to an inter dimension.

In SS044, Summer and the others are shocked to find out Voidera was killed by Shutendoji. Summer decides to fully awaken Juno's powers in order to put an end to Overseer's havoc.

In the following episodes, after that, she is shown to be very desperate to awaken as Juno to stop Overseer.

In SS047, Summer was able to finally remember Juno's final thoughts and awaken her spirit in order to blast Overseer. However, she was later captured by Overseer.

Natsumeexplains

In SS048, after being captured by Overseer, he forces her to remember about their past together and soon it all comes back to her. Afterwards, Summer blasts her way out of Overseer, finding the "Spirit" that she needed to fully awaken. Summer brings Cole and Bruno along to show them that Juno and Saros (Overseer) used to be in love with one another until Saros betrayed Juno and killed her father, having him thrown in an underground dungeon. As Saros served his time in imprisonment, growing full of hatred, and becoming Overseer. She then announces that she wouldn't let Overseer have his way and decides to protect both worlds.

In SS049, Juno's spirit leaves Summer's body after stopping Overseer/Saros and finding out the truth behind Saros' imprisonment, he was wrongly accused. Sometime after the battle, she and the rest of the agency were winding down with Lil' Acala hanging about. Summer displayed to Tate what his past life would've looked like which he retorted. She is later seen smiling whilst Tate was getting back at Whisper for sending the prank notice.
