Physical Traits[]
Tate is a young boy with brown eyes and hair.
He wears a blue, short-sleeved sweater, with a yellow star motif on the upper left side, white pants, and dark blue loafers, which have smaller, orange star symbols on them.
In some episodes, he also wears a light-blue, collarless polo shirt with a white trim that is unbuttoned at the collar, a pair of orange pants, and the same loafers.
Also in some episodes, he wears a blue, white and yellow t-shirt, green cargo shorts and again the same loafers
During the colder seasons, Tate again has three more sets of clothes.
In the movie and in some episodes, he wears a navy blue sweater with white trim and white stripes around the arms. A large white "K" is printed in the upper left side. He wears a pair of green cargo pants, black socks, and the white loafers.
He alternates with a light blue sweater with white and yellow stripes across the chest and arms. Another pair of green cargo pants, orange socks, and the same loafers.
He has another outfit: a dark blue hoodie over a red shirt, brown pants, and the same loafers.
Personality[]
Tate is a somewhat cowardly, easily startled boy. He initially refuses to believe in the supernatural and first considered the Yo-kai Detective Agency to be an occult group. However, he does end up warm up to the idea of Yo-kai existing as the series goes on by. Ironically, Tate possessed the same ability to attract Yo-Kai very easily just like his father.
He also seems to show courage when people close to him are in danger. This is evident in SS048 where he decides to save his sister from Overseer.
He is also shown to be very stubborn and childish, yet he also has a strong sense of justice as shown when he refused to surrender to Shiroda and his gang of thugs in the first episode, which he inherited from his father and great grandfather.
In the manga, he is far less timid and acts more like Nate does in the manga. He isn't averse to believing Yo-kai exist and joins Whisper in actively hunting for them. Even when very young he is shown to be strong as he protects his childhood friend Kenji from bullies before Kenji does the same for him when they're older.
Relationships[]
Human Relationships[]
Family[]

Tate's Family
Summer Adams[]
Tate is Summer's little brother. The two both care for each other, but can be shown to argue a lot. His bond with Summer was proven to be powerful, as he was the trigger of her awakening as Juno, even both of them have similar attitudes like their father.
Nate and Katie[]
Tate is Nate and Katie's youngest son. He strongly resembles his father. In SS001, Whisper even stated that Tate looked familiar to him. In the manga, like Summer, Tate was surprised upon learning of his father's identity as a wielder of the Yo-kai Watch.
Friends[]
Bruno & Cole[]
Tate is shown to be on simple terms with both of them. It's implied that Bruno and Tate's relationship is a more simple one, while his relationship with Cole is more of a one-sided admiration, with Tate being the one who admires Cole.
Archie & Tank[]
They appeared to be close friends with Tate similar to Nate's relationship with Eddie and Bear. In SS046, he was horrified to see them caught up in Overseer's substance.
Yo-kai Relationships[]

Bourei Banchou[]
Prior to SS001, Tate had known Bourei Banchou as his old friend Kenji. Kenji was the one who taught Tate that "True men have courage". However, Kenji was caught up in an accident and lost his life. Upon seeing the wristband on Bourei Banchou, Tate knew that he recognized the Yo-kai from somewhere before.
In SS048, he summoned him to fight against Overseer.
Whisper[]
When first meeting Tate, Whisper noticed that there was something familiar about him (despite not knowing that Tate was the son of his friend Nate). Their relationship is akin similar to what Nate and Whisper had 30 years ago.
Sly[]
Even though he easily gets annoyed by Sly's antics, Tate is on good terms with him. He even summoned his Hyper mode in SS019 to help save Archie and Tank.
Junior[]
Tate and Junior have a relationship similar to that of Nate and Jibanyan. In SS048, Junior cheered up Tate by telling him that his sister, Summer, is strong.

Running off scared and confused by the situation, Tate ended up running into Summer and the others again after they were fighting against Borei Banchou, who Tate actually appeared to recognise. Running off again, Tate ran into some thugs and ended up getting beaten up by the thugs, vowing to not surrender to them, he ended up unknowingly calling Borei Banchou. Eventually after a battle against a Kaima Yo-kai, Tate was finally able to confirm that Borei Banchou is indeed the Yo-kai reincarnation of his friend Kenji who had died a very long time ago.

It was revealed that Kenji is the one who gave Tate courage when they were younger. Now reunited with Kenji, Tate was able to finally say goodbye to Kenji and ended up befriending Borei Banchou.

Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King[]

He goes into Summer's room after the occurrence and sees the watch Summer was using on that day. He uses the radar and spots Whisper. Summer runs in on him but thinks Tate could actually be helpful if he knew about the watch.
Yo-kai Watch Shadowside[]

Tate in Bourei Banchou showing where he was in MM04
Tate makes his manga debut in Bourei Banchou. Summer enters Tate's room early in the morning. She says good morning to Tate as well as Whisper. Tate explains that he can somehow see Yo-kai. Summer tells Tate that she, as well as their parents are going out and tells him to not go into her room. Whisper explains how Summer is calm, hard working and an optimist however was fired from being her butler after following her into the bathroom. Tate ignores him as Whisper continues to harass him.
Whisper and Tate go out with the watch, looking for Yo-kai. He overhears two people discussing an apparition called 'Bourei Banchou' that appears when bullying occurs and beats up the bullies. Whisper explains that it might be a Yo-kai and they could go find him. Tate remembers an event where when he was younger he was trading cards with his friends. One of the boys takes one of Tate's cards without permission. A boy named Kenji walks up to them and snatches it from his hand, giving it back to Tate. He intimidates the other boys, making them leave. Kenji explains to Tate how he was always made fun of when he was younger because he was so small so can't forgive people like that. Tate is surprised such a big boy was small saying he was tall for his age when he was younger but is now quite short. Kenji continues saying that back then someone else helped him with the bullies and he wanted to be like him. Tate explains how he wanted to be like Kenji but he passed away after trying to save a kid who jumped into the street.
The two of them find two men beating up another and they watch from afar. Tate reveals a Keystone which Whisper is surprised to see and he summons Himoji with Whisper stating that it was simply Summer's keystone he borrowed. Tate asks him to beat up the guys but Whisper tells him it isn't so easy when the Yo-kai isn't your friend. Tate passes him some candy and Himoji is quickly persuaded. He transforms into his Shadowside form, draining energy from the two men. They run away and Tate approaches the other asking if he's alright. The man yells at him despite Tate's concerns and a creature appears from his body. Whisper explains it's a Wicked Yo-kai that feeds on the dirty souls of humans and can possess them. As Himoji is unable to fight anymore, the Yo-kai attacks Tate. Before he can strike again, Bourei Banchou appears, punching it away. The two Yo-kai fight and Bourei Banchou uses a finishing move consisting of winding up a punch before striking.Tate recognises this and asks Whisper if dead people can become Yo-kai which Whisper states is true.
Tate calls out Kenji's name and Bourei Banchou states it's been a while since he's seen him, confirming his suspicions. The two embrace with Bourei Banchou explaining how he helps bullied people. He remembers when he was young and small and it is revealed that the first person who helped him was Tate. Bourei Banchou gives Tate his Keystone and he laughs that it's their second time becoming friends. Tate exclaims that they should go out and help more people in need. In the final panel, Jibanyan appears, asking why he didn't appear in chapter 1 with Whisper telling the audience he'll appear next.
