The Vanishing Watch is the first chapter of Yo-kai Watch 2.
Story[]
Two* Yo-kai appear in the night sky over Springdale. They fly towards the player's house and peer inside at the Yo-kai Watch with the protagonist. With purple magic, the watch disappears, ending up in the Yo-kai's possession. They depart and morning comes and the chapter starts.
The protagonist is asleep in bed and their mother enters, telling them they shouldn't sleep so much, even during summer break. The protagonist asks for five more minutes but their mother tells them they promised to go shopping with their parents. The protagonist goes downstairs to see their mother. She asks if they wrote in their summer diary the night before but the protagonist remarks that they forgot. Their mother ushers them to do so lest they forget the summer. She tells them to go outside where their dad is waiting while she locks up the house. The three then take the car to go shopping.
They go to Downtown Springdale, Toyz iz We and Cafe Shanista. In the car, the protagonist's mother brings up the idea of stopping for a treat and their dad suggests buying doughnuts. They park the car outside two doughnut shops in Shopper's Row. The protagonist notices there are two doughnut shops with either parent suggesting a different one. The two begin to fight over their different preferences, eventually, both turning to the protagonist who is against deciding. Their mother gives the protagonist money so they can choose. If on Psychic Specters the choice of doughnut decides which route you will take, the Fleshy Souls or Bony Spirits. The protagonist returns to find their parents still fighting, they hand them over but their parents tell them to head home themselves. The protagonist stops outside the school, wondering what was up with their parents. Bear and Eddie run over, stating they have something great to show them. They reveal their Mega Watches, boasting about their abilities. The protagonist then has a weird feeling about a watch they used to have. Eddie pipes up, saying that he and Bear are going to be late as they're going to meet up with Katie/Nate at Triangle Park. The protagonist asks to come but has to stop off at home first for their bug net. They go home, picking up the net from their garden.
At the park, Bear decides they should have a bug catching contest. Eddie ponders how they should decide on the winner with Bear stating it should be whoever gets the rarest. Katie/Nate decides they should catch three bugs each. They then give the protagonist 3 Black Syrup that makes bugs easier to catch. The protagonist states they're sure they'll find a rare bug but then has a feeling something similar has happened before. Back together, the winner is chosen to be Bear. Eddie then shows off the Critter Collection app and Bear suggests they go to the store for ice cream. After enjoying their ice creams, Katie/Nate notices the time, stating that they must get home to sign for a delivery for their mother. The group disband, everyone heading home except the protagonist. They begin to leave but feel an aura that makes them curious about the alley behind the Everymart.
The protagonist goes down the alley, noticing the Memory Store, a shop they don't recognise. They enter the store and it is revealed to be what looks like an antique shop. They take a liking to a watch on display in the cabinet. The shopkeeper explains that it lets you see things you can't usually see and the protagonist buys it. Once putting it on, they feel like they've worn it before. They asks if the low price is alright and the shopkeeper tells them to use the coins instead on the gacha machine outside. The protagonist does so, putting in a coin. Out comes a grey capsule that they mistake for a rock. Disappointed, they turn to leave, throwing it on the floor. The capsule speaks to them angrily, telling them to open it and not waste their money, jumping back into their hands. Whisper appears, revealing himself as a Yo-kai butler much to the protagonist's surprise. Whisper explains that they can see him because of the Yo-kai Watch. He begins to explain the watch but the protagonist seems to already know how to use it. As they open it, they suddenly remember the events of the first game that they had forgotten along with Whisper. The two of them state they must see Jibanyan, Whisper instructing that he must be in the usual spot by the Fish Place.
Once there, Whisper tells the protagonist to use the Yo-kai Watch to find Jibanyan, also unlocking the Yo-kai Spots app. The protagonist finds Jibanyan on the pavement before he jumps into the road, attempting but failing to attack a truck. After landing from the hit, he walks back to the pavement, defeated. The protagonist asks if he's okay and he's shocked a human is talking to him, thinking its Amy. Whisper notes that Jibanyan doesn't seem to remember anything either. He explains his backstory again and the protagonist peps him up. The protagonist asks him to remember and he regains his memories, his medal appearing in front of them. Whisper states that it's strange how they all forgot as well as the protagonist losing the watch. The protagonist suggests they go see the shopkeeper to ask if he knows anything and they return to the Memory Store. However, once they arrive, the store is completely gone. The protagonist asks why Whisper was in the gacha machine. He says it's a long story but the protagonist quickly realises he has no idea. Before leaving, Whisper states that he feels a Yo-kai in a pile of garbage nearby. They find Brushido who gets the wrong idea and wants to fight. The protagonist summons Jibanyan to fight him however he was asleep and doesn't feel like it. In order to persuade him, Whisper promises that the protagonist will buy him a Chocobar as a reward. Instantly motivated, Jibanyan jumps into action, starting a battle. Once Brushido is defeated, he admired their friendship and wants to be friends too. The protagonist obliges and receives his medal. The group go home while the two Yo-kai from before look over them, angry about the protagonist getting the watch back after their work to take it from them.
