Getting Cursed for Turning Off the Camera (Japanese: カメラを止めたら呪われる Kamera otometara norowa reru), is the 6th episode of the Y School Heroes anime series. It was broadcasted in Japan on February 7, 2020.

Summary[]

One day, by chance, Mataro comes across a filming project directed by George Rukasu, the film club's leader. They seem somewhat hectic because they find an undocumented zombie in one of the scenes. George recalls it as the "Reflected Tomomichi", one of the Seven Academy Mysteries where rumor has it any film can be cursed if it appears, resulting in the leading actors to quit one after another. To solve the mystery and fulfil his acting curiousity, Mataro volunteers to take the leading role.

Plot[]

Warning: plot & spoiler details are listed below.

Mataro and Sandayu walk back to the dorms with Jinpei (after his failed attempt to come closer with Ms. Enra), when he angrily kicks a can and loses his shoe. Separated from Jinpei to look for his shoe, Sandayu and Mataro accidentally comes across zombies when an army man appears blowing their wig off with a rocket launcher. Then somebody yells "Cut!", revealing that the two walked onto a movie set. The director appears and introduces himself as George Rukasu, the head of the Y-Academy film club, and is in the middle of shooting an action-horror film which he had worked on for three years. This gets Mataro excited as the film's genre is part of his favorite action movies, and even more when George scouts him as he develops interest in using the footage of Mataro running from the zombies for the final cut.

The next day, Jinpei, Sandayu and Mataro enter the film club, which will be holding a lecture from a world-famous director named Akio Gurosawa. Jinpei suddenly barges in, where they see the film crew reacting to non-casted zombie appearing in the footage scenes. George believes it to be of the Seven Academy Mysteries, the "Reflected Tomomichi" who likes to be on camera, where Sandayu confirms the theory that any film Tomomichi appears are said to be cursed. As of result, the leading actors, Usu Buru, Rutsu Shuwa and Rambo Ikarino all quit, which forces George to change the film's plot with Mataro as the leading star.

The next day of shooting, George explains the zombies diee when their wigs are removed. Mataro pitifully tries to take a wig off but to no avail from his poor acting, with Sandayu and Jinpei minorily helping out. In the next scene where the star is to make an escape when the zombies trap him, Mataro courageously manages to grab a zombie wig, but fails to as it is if completely attached, making everybody realize that zombie is the rumoured Tomomichi.

Tomomichi's mushroom head emits smoke which duplicates those it touches including Mataro and the production crew. Jinpei and Sandayu use their YSP powers against them but their effects have no effect against Tomomichi, until Jinpei accidentally squeezes the mushroom spores on the Tomomichied-Mataro which withers away and turning Mataro back to normal. Finding their weaknesses, Sandayu transforms into Little Kommander and uses his miniature size to jump on the mushrooms, and successfully revert the Tomomichied victims back to normal. Behind the scenes again, Mr. Usumizawa uses his hair strand to merge the rest of the Tomomichis to become one big Onryo called Jumbo Tomomichi. Jinpei becomes Kengo Benimaru where his attacks are ineffective against Jumbo Tomomichi's hard and giant naval. He uses the "englargement" Y-Medal he obtained previously to enlarge one of his body parts and after repeated failed tries, manages to enlarge his foot to stomp the mushroom before delivering the finishing slice.

Tomomichi reverts back to normal human self, and explains his story. "25 years ago in the academy, Tomomichi and his friend Ac-chan joined the film club, so they can realize their dream of making a movie with a draft Ac-chan written involving the current plot. He became the director, but Tomomichi ended up doing staff duty as he couldn't find a suitable role in any of the films they made. Before graduation, Ac-chan requested for Tomomichi to play the leading role for their final project which was the zombie plot they dreamed about. But unfortunately while filming inside of an abandoned building, Tomomichi slipped off the edge and fell to his death. This tragedy made the latter feeling sad and regretful that he ruined his best friend's dream which turned him into a ghost zombie from the attachment, thus becoming the mystery as of present."

Looking back, George tells them that the actors who "quit" actually ran away from the zombie, because of how out-of-place he was. Tomomichi apologizes for disturbing them production when Mataro realizes something after noticing a rolled-up poster of Akio Gurosawa's lecture. He takes Tomomichi to the campus theater where Akio where Tomomichi recognizes him as "Ac-chan." They both reconcile over the zombie film, as Akio admits his guilt that his current fame was the result of the unfinished project but also exploiting Tomomichi's tragedy. Though Tomomichi forgives him as he proved of some use for his friend, Akio also shows to him during the screening of his last film from last year. It was the completed zombie film now a director's cut version, where Tomomichi's death scene was edited with added footage done by advanced CGI effects Akio studied overbroad. Happilly relieved of their dream finally realized, Tomomichi purifies into a Y-Medal.

A few days later, George present his completed zombie film starring Mataro, which became a horror-comedy genre leaving the audience laughing at the main character's misfortune, much to the latter's embarassment.
