24 Hours on the Run: Mechas Save the Earth (Japanese: 24時間の逃亡 メカは地球を救う 24-Jikan no Tōbō Mekawa Chikyū Osukuu) is the 12th episode of the Y School Heroes anime series. It was broadcasted in Japan on March 20, 2020.
Summary[]
The YSP Club head and checks out the Futuristic Science Club, where they developed the "PD700R Custom" power suit. Then for some reason, the suit goes haywire and its autopilot program malfunctioning. Now on the loose, the club's head, Awado Tatsuhito, decides to terminate the suit before it could do anymore damage. But things get more complicated when Fubuki, the mecha-loving maiden steps in to defend the suit, saying "This child is not guilty!"
Plot[]
Jinpei, Mataro, Sandayu and Fubuki are seen having lunch alongside Wampus and Goromi when Fubuki receives a notification from the Future Science Club about a new robot, which then they go to see.
Meanwhile, Awado is seen conversing with someone hiding underneath several sheets in the hospital, trying to get them to get out of bed. Eventually, Awado gave up and leaves.
At the Future Science Club Room, Awado reveals their latest creation to Jinpei, Mataro, Sandayu and Fubuki: a robot named PD700R Custom, which amazes the group (and the mecha loving Fubuki in particular). Fubuki offers to test pilot it, but the other members say Awado will do so. Suddenly, the mecha suddenly comes to life and breaks out of the Room, busting a hole in the side as it heads to wreak havoc below.
Jinpei eventually gets on top of the robot and pries open the cockpit to see who is in control, but the cockpit was empty and he is thrown off. Deeming it dangerous, Awado and the other Future Science Club members arm themselves to terminate it, but Fubuki stops them from doing so and escapes.
Jinpei, Sandayu and Mataro attempt to chase them in mech suits Wampus found, but due to technical faults in the suits they attained some sort of physical harm. The Future Science Club later corners them, but are quickly dispatched by PD700R Custom as they lose the robot once more.
After apparently losing them, Fubuki turns into Clock Lady and crosses the desert near Y-Academy with PD700R Custom. At some point, she reverted while travelling with the robot and was caught in a net by the Future Science Club's blimp (piloted by Awado). PD700R Custom throws the blimp into a nearby pyramid, and uses its body as a meat shield against the debris and had its arm cut off before taking down the blimp's visuals with the debris.
Later, Fubuki attempts to repair the arm of PD700R Custom near an oasis when the robot is able to help her do so with a lot of meticulousness.
The Next Day, Jinpei, Mataro and Sandayu are eating in the canteen and noting Fubuki's disappearance, speaking of which the girl has just woken up and had deduced PD700R is partially human, as it had been doing human-like gestures. The robot then proceeds to back away before fleeing, with Fubuki in hot pursuit. Their chase leads them to a residential area where Jinpei, Mataro and Sandayu are seen walking down, prompting her to enlist the boys to help get the robot.
The robot eventually leads the group into a hospital, barging into that same room Awado was in at the beginning of the episode, before powering down as the patient Awado was talking to wakes up. Later revealing himself as Noriaki, Awado's twin, he had fallen into a coma before hand and his spirit is somehow able to control the robot. He had also refused to leave the hospital earlier before because he had an inferiority complex towards his brother, though eventually he decides to leave after much encouragement.
Some time later, Noriaki has joined the Future Science Club and invites Fubuki to test drive another PD700R Custom, which she gleefully accepts.
