Yo-kai Watch Land was a mobile game developed and published by Level-5's western branch LEVEL-5 Abby. The game was released in North America on January 3, 2016 and in Europe somewhere during the Spring of 2016 for the iOS and Android.

After over a year without updates due to Hasbro no longer manufacturing Yo-kai Watch merchandise, the application was taken off the App Store on December 31, 2018. The game is still playable offline for those who have already downloaded it, however the game cannot be re-downloaded once deleted.[1]

QR code compatibilaty[]

The player can scan Hasbro's new Yo-kai Watch toys to see them come alive on screen. The player can scan their QR code that is on the back of the medals to add them to their collection, which they can use to play minigames. The player can also take pictures of their collected Yo-kai.

Minigames[]

The player can play minigames to level up and complete challenges with their Yo-kai. This give the player experience points, which in turn will level the Yo-kai up. When the player levels up, they will unlock more minigames and stickers, which can be used in the photo booth.

Bucket Challenge[]

This minigame can only be played when the Yo-kai the player choose is of the Tribe of the day. In the Bucket Challenge the player can play as Whisper and collect falling Crank-a-kai coins in a bucket. In order to play, the player also have to collect the bucket in the minigame of their choice. This minigame boosts the score of whatever game was just played before this.

Robo Choco[]

In this minigame, Robonyan wants a chocobar, but is left with none. The player must collect Crank-a-kai coins and Cacao Beans, as well avoiding bombs and cat arms to fill a Choco Meter, so the player can win as many points as possible. Once the Choco Meter is full, the game goes into a frenzy-like state where the player must collect as many choco squares as possible. There are a few power-ups, like a drill that destroys any obstacle it touches, a red-eyed Robonyan head that explodes any obstacles on screen, and what seems to be a helium tank with electricity on it, which speeds up the players descent. All of the power-ups are non-permanent.

Capsule Escape[]

In this minigame, Whisper finds a capsule machine and wants to have a capsule ball, but it didn't make it into the hole. The player must collect Crank-a-kai coins, as well as getting checkpoints for the timer, so the player can win as many points as possible. There are bowling pins which grant around 100 points each, fling pads, platforms which move you, two doorways which spin clockwise, and bumpers of various sizes.

Manji Mess[]

This minigame is basically pinball crossed with pachinko, but the player can control the ball which in fact is a Yo-kai Medal, by tilting the device and swiping. The player must get as many points as possible. You can fling your medal in any direction, with a cooldown. There are a few stage elements, most of them boosting score. There is a small slot machine that can increase the score 2x or 3x, a lollipop which slows movement and grants 50 points upon contact infinitely, a cloud which bumps the players medal upwards, a piggy bank which on contact explodes into many coins, and a hole which will move your medal around.

Trivia[]

  • The Yo-kai Watch Land app shares similarities to the Yo-kai Pad toy in Japan as both scans medals, view Yo-kai data, and play with apps. However, the Yo-kai Pad toy features more useful apps but cannot take photos or update itself and requires batteries. This was probably done to save money for Hasbro and appeal to the mobile market.
